Well, my HTPC started to make this loud hiss whenever it went under high CPU load. Removing the cover and listening reveals that... whaddya know, it's coming from the power supply. Sounds like it's going unstable or something.

The specs:

- AthlonXP 2000+, not overclocked
- Chaintech 7NIF2 mobo
- 512MB of Samsung PC3200.
- Hauppage PVR350.
- Seagate 7200.7, 120GB HD.
- one DVD drive.
- $30 POWMAX case, with a 400W POWMAX supply.

I figured I could get away with a generic power supply considering that there's hardly anything running in the case... originally I had the computer in an Antec Minuet case with its wimpy 220 watt power supply, and that worked absolutely fine... alas upgrading to the PVR350 required that I get a case with standard profile expansion slots.

Well, I just replaced the power supply in the case with a *145 WATT* Compaq supply from the junk bin, and the computer's working absolutely fine!

So yeah, just a friendly reminder... don't buy generic shit like POWMAX. :D

The 350w Turbolink supplied in the Aspire turbo case is especially bad. My friend had one that fried a brand new HD and would make his case lighting flicker worse than a christmas tree :D
