What I really like is how you can burn mp3s directly with the machine. My friend has one, and they're pocket size. Which is good because I have a CDRW Cd player, and its huge and I cant stand that bulky thing anymore.

Also you have to take out the cdrw and burn it and put it back in, and if the cdrw gets corrupted you're pretty much screwd. With this MD player you dont have to taking anything out, just plug it into the computer, copy over and burn.
 
I own that and I love the quality and the 40+ hour battery life, but mine has a problem now. It doesn't record and Sony won't fix it...
 
I've been checking ebay, and seems like a LOT of these md players have problems.

I think they damage really really fast. Hmm.

MD is proprietary. MD players tend to break down frequently. For the price of that and some md's you can get an iPod mini or other mp3 player.
 
Not to mention that sony re-encodes all audio into their own format- mostly fine if your source is the original, but if it's mp3 etc, you are further degrading the quality.
 
I agree with the "Nay!" votes here, too. It's not because of the MD format itself; it's because Sony had botched up its implementation of that format. MD units cannot natively support MP3 files - they can recognise only the "proprietary" ATRAC and ATRAC3 formats. Furthermore, MP3 files must be converted to the ATRAC3 format (which is limited to 132kbps max, equivalent to LP2 mode) before they can be transferred to the MD unit. And the MZ-N510 came with an earlier version of SonicStage that puts all sorts of copy restrictions on whatever you transfer from your PC to the MD. And if your MP3 files are all on a computer system that isn't running an original installation of Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Me or Windows 98 Second Edition (that means you cannot use NetMD on a Windows installation that is an upgrade from an older originally-installed version, nor can you use NetMD on Linux or Mac or a multi-boot environment), fuggiddaboudit!
