Hi. Question to all the YL owners. I was thinking about buying two nexus 'real silent' 120mm fans for a build, but they are expensive. With a good fan controller, would you say there is a point where the YL's reach the Nexus's noise levels and provide equal or better airflow?

I know this is largely based on personal experiences, but still feel free to share yours.

you know, since a nexus real silent 120 mm fan is a yate loon with an added resistor to slow it down..........i think that they answer to your question is "yes" :D

This place was selling them for 5.99 a piece before they went out of stock on Friday, but im sure they will have more eventually. I ordered 4 from them, and they should arrive tomorrow. The Nexus is overpriced (by alot), and arent that much quieter. With a fan controller, it wouldn't matter anyways.

That place was selling them for $3.99 if you bought more than 5. Lots of people jumped on them. You're right though. I much prefer to get loud fans that move lots of air and undervolt them using a fan controller. You can get them very very quiet for most of the time but also have the option to crank them up if you need the extra cooling (which is not an option for these slow quiet fans).

He's absolutely correct. To clarify, the Yate Loon's run at 1400RPM at 12v input while the Nexus' run at 1000RPM with the same input. The reason, as he mentioned, is that Nexus puts an inline resistor to knock the voltage, and thus fan speed down. Otherwise they are the exact same fan.

I'd say you'll probably want the extra speed in your fan unless you passively cool your chipset and video card. At 1400, it's already pretty damn quiet. Plus you can always 7V it or use Speedfan and then it's practically silent.
