Yahoo has decided to close its auction sites in the U.S. and Canada next month. Did anybody use Yahoo’s auction sites?

"After careful consideration, we have decided to close the Yahoo U.S. and Canada auctions sites to better serve our valued customers through other Yahoo products," the company said in a statement that mirrored a blog posting.

Wow, I used their auction site many, many years ago.
I didn't know they were still open.

Yeah, and they've almost always been rip-offs. Prices were either too high, or the guy selling it was a crook.

No surprise to me...

I knew they were open but almost everything I've ever looked for on there was overpriced to what I could get it for via ebay. They were one of the only sites to compete with them yes but yahoo's selection sucked.

The only two online auction scams I ever had were both Yahoo Auctions. And I only ever even used Yahoo Auctions twice. So 100% of my scams were on Yahoo Auctions, and 100% of my Yahoo Auctions were scams.

One of the scammers even had the audacity (after I resolved it in my favor) to say I was a great buyer, and later sent me an email asking me to bid on another auction!

Wonder if this has anything to do with the IRS trying to get information on sellers over at Ebay?Maybe Yahoo decided they didn't want the hassle.

yahoo never caught on here. same with amazon. just didnt get that critical mass that ebay has.

yahoo auctions is i think actually bigger than ebay in japan.

so they aren't bad, just you need a critical mass to really have a working onlin emarketplace.

I have 125 transactions via Yahoo Auctions. They were much better than Ebay when they first started because no one knew about it, so good deals were to be had ;)

Too bad YA is now gone :( Now there is no way to get around the Ebay IRS issue

Yahoo Auctions is HUGE in Asia. It may very well be larger than eBay in the US in terms of how much money is passed around through of it. Can you imagine people in the States sitting on a computer, seeing something they want, and waving their phone at it to purchase it?

Nearly more than half of my PS2 game library is imported from Japan or South Korea (hello Katamari Damacy). I won't talk about how disappointed I am that the PS3 is still region locked (or how disappointed all Europeans and Australians are about it, too), but most of those I got from YAJ. Or Lik-Sang before Sony lawyer-bombed it off the face of the earth.
