i just installed this card the other day, and noticed it has several ways of connecting power to the card.

is this neccessary? what are they for?
 
There's only one way of giving power to the card, and that's through the pci connector; which is mandatory anyway. All the other connectors are for various audio cables.
 
actually, i just read that the extra power connectors are for an upgradable i/o front bay device.
