xtremegamer Mic hiss

I recently bought an x-fi gamer to replace my onboard realtek hd audio. It sounds great with my koss sb40 and old logitech speakers, but not too different. Games sound a little better, but again, nothing too dramatic. However... the mic input pretty much sucks. Theres a hiss in the background everytime I speak, which is really annoying.

I used to use an old sony headset with my onboard realtek sound. The realtek driver software had options to reduce hiss and clear out the mic so my voice would sound much clearer. In ventrilo (voice communication program), there would be no hiss at all, and my voice was pretty much crystal clear.

I thought the problem was just the mic in my koss headset (which really really sucks), but I tried my old headset with the xtremegamer and I still get the hiss. Its really ugly and annoying. I can be heard and all in ventrilo, but this hiss is loud as well, and in the background.

Are there any options to cure the hissing on the like realtek does? I somewhat regret getting a soundcard... thinking it would be all improvements. But then i get a disimprovement -_-.

Thanks for all the advice.

i have the mic muted in sound options but it still works in teamspeak no problem. un muting it gives me hiss. go figure

Thanks. I think the mic is supposed to be muted. Mine already is, and I still get the hiss... Lucky for you though. Thanks

Could this be a decective card?

possibly- on a related note- i could not get my mic on my sb40 to work worth a damn on teamspeak- my clanmates either heard constant hiss or nothing!
i finally put on my dt770 w/mic mod

Yeah, i gheto modded my sb40's and attatched some cheap mic too it. Works way better. If I knew about the mic problem, i would have bought a plantronics or something. Oh well.

Anyways... this hiss is still there... and still have no idea how to get rid of it. Any more ideas anyone? The creative forums are very unhelpful..

one idea- play with the volume sliders- on any headset/mic without noise cancelling and muting the wave and mic sliders cannot be too high or feedback comes in
usually the wave slider is up high- try turning it down to 1/2 or so and let us know
