has there been anybody here that has had an issue flashing a 1900XT to an XTX? and stories of "bad" flashes? any reasons that should just leave my card alone?

There's really no need to flash, as you can just use the Overdrive ot ATiTool to run it at XTX speeds (or faster). There is always a risk wih flashing, as the app can screw the bios which means re-flashing is required - if you don't have a spare PCI card handy then that's kinda difficult to do!
 
You need to be sure of your memory type too. In my case there are thermal pads on my memory that I would need to remove to identify the memory which I am not going to do.

I have not heard anything that makes flashing to XTX all that desirable. Some people claim it relaxes the memory timings and that allows hire clocks, but no proof of people consistently getting better clocks by flashing and several techie types dispute the claim altogether.
