Xsplit and streaming, do I need a new card?

I use Xsplit to stream starcraft 2 ladder and also now Guild Wars 2 on twitch.tv.
My comp is I72600k, 16gig ram 128ssd+4gig Raid0 and 2 gig Radeon 6970.

I like to stream at 1080p bit a fairly high bit rate. I do encounter some lag on my streams and this could be also due to my upload speed ( currently stuck at 3Mbps), twitch tv servers or my hardware. I was thinking about getting another graphics card and here are my options.

1) I could get a second 6970 and crossfire them, but I am not sure if this would help since the single 6970 runs every game i play at max setting close to 60fps, lag starts when the stream kicks in.

2) I could get a never generation video card and use it single.

3) I could get a dedicated video capture card and use that for streaming.

What are the pro's and cons of all these options and if I decide to go with number 3, can you guys recommend some models?
 
SC2 is not graphically intense at all, my GPU actually seems to have issues in it in that it doesn't understand what the hell its supposed to do, usual usage is like 40% if even.

Do not stream at 1080P if your upload is not 5mbps+. Just use Dxtory @ 1080P + Xsplit at 720 and you should be fine with quality.

Also, sometimes there is lag from Twitch.tv's side, not very often though.
 
What is dxtory? My stream lag is usually caused by internet connection or twitch tv, however when i am trying to stream at 1080p my own game starts to lag and i am trying to solve that problem with a dedicated video capture ard or a second 6970
 
its definitely graphic card related...

dxtory is definitely worth a shot to see if it helps. it basically acts as the render which uses your gpu to do the rendering. in xsplit if you go into the screen region section(bottom left box) there should be an option to select a camera to use, select the dxtory one and xsplit will then just become the uploader client to twitch or what ever you use for streaming.

theres a few tutorial video's/text guides on how to setup dxtory. its a great program, i used it when i was streaming tribes and my roommate uses it for WoW, sadly it doesn't work for LoL so i can't stream that.

as far as your internet connection goes and depending on your original resolution use 720p @ 2000 maybe 2200 kbps set your VBR to 2400 to give it some leeway if the extra bitrate is needed. like iron said don't bother with 1080p, especially if you are using twitch since its pointless unless you are partnered.

oh and another thing that twitch is now telling all their broadcasters, when you setup the xsplit client, make sure you select your region and don't use the default location otherwise it will pick what ever server it thinks is closer to you and won't always pick the one that is actually closer to you if your ISP hides your location.
 
Thank you for the information man, that was great. I realized that during peak hours my upload to twitch.tv goes down to 500kbs, and during non peak hours it is about 2500kbps. I like to stream my audio at high quality, around 128k, so that does not give me much to play with during peak hours.
I am going to try the 720p@2k bitrate and the server trick, thnx.

Also, hypothetically if I was partnered with Twich tv, would they increase my uploading bandwith to them, or is ti the same? The reason I am asking is that I see people with thousands of viewers stream at 1080p with no lag during peak hours and allthough I have the uploading bandwith at my end ready to go, I just cant.
 
Holy crap massive difference in bandwidth. Saturday 3:51 pm, everone and their mothers are trying to stream GW2 beta, I get 500kbps average if my location is set at default and 2800kbps if i change it to west coast Los Angeles
 
Really? I stream 720p with a HD 6670 no problems. SC2 at medium settings. You likely need to turn down your SC2 graphics quality to stream at 1080p.
 
Well, I am a bit picky when it comes to graphics settings. I don't like to turn them down, it bothers me, just how I do not like streaming at 720p.
Since now we have solved the bandwidth issue, now I would like to know if I should get a second 6970, a single 7950/680 or a dedicated video capture card? I have not messed with dxtory yet, I am going to look in to it tonight.

yeah thats because they were probably routing you through some random ass server no where near you.. happened to me as well til i got the email, lagged like a mofo streaming.. set my location correctly and magically no lag what so friggin ever. eventually figured out through the ip it was connecting to it was sending me to a server in Florida which is on the other side of the country from me.

as far as the partnered thing no you won't get more bandwidth its the same for everyone(as far as i know there isn't a hard cap on bandwidth. it just depends on the load of that specific server you are connected to at any given time.

i've seen some people using capture cards but honestly don't see a point in it. your setup should be able to stream SC2 at pretty high stream settings.. if you don't own xsplit 1080p and anything over 3k bitrate is a waste, also audio over 128k is a waste since speedx codec blows.(highly recommend downgrading to 6.4 if you don't own xsplit since 6.4 still has AAC audio support for free). but also if you aren't partnered twitch will downgrade your video res to 720p even though you set it to 1080p(you can usually tell when people are streaming 1080p instead of 720p unpartnered because the delay will usually be about 30 seconds instead of the normal 7-10 seconds.
 
Dude you are answering all my questions at once without me even asking about it. I do own xsplit, but obviously not a partner, so you are telling me that my 1080p video is being downgraded to 720 anyways eh? And yes, when I stream 1080p, there is a 20-30 second delay not lag but delay. I use the higher quality audio codec, so I guess i am just going to go stream 720p @2200kbps bitrate with a max of 2500.at 30fps with 128k AAC codec. Also lowering to720 should solve all in game lag issues i may experience anyways.
