xspc or custom setup?

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I'm looking to get into the water cooling bandwagon. Just looking to cool the processor for now and maybe add a videocard to the loop later. I have a haswel 4770k. I like what the xspc raystorm kits have to offer. Anyone have any input from these? Should I go custom?

The Raystorm kits are great. You'll have a hard time finding a better value putting something together yourself.

For a CPU only, I'd recommend the Raystorm D5 RX240 kit, if you can fit it in your case, and if you can still find it. I can't personally speak to their AX series though...

Do you have any particular goals in mind? Cooling performance vs. silence?

I am basically looking for performance cooling. Excess noise does not affect me because I wear a headset most of the time. I was thinking of going with a raystorm ex 360 kit because I have the room for it. I plan on installing it in a thermaltake chaser mk2. Will I need another d5 pump if a add another radiator and 2 video card blocks in the future? For now it will be processor only. Thanks for all your help and quick responses. Systemviper I do want to learn this watercooling fad for future builds but thanks for your advice on the closed loop as well.

I got a XSPC kit in November for my first water cooling setup. I saw that most of the kits came with bay reservoirs, but I did find one that used a cylinder type:

I got an additional 1x140mm rad so I could use it for both my CPU and GPU, but overall I have been very pleased with it. My only complaint is one of the o-rings was torn on the fitting already screwed into to the radiator (not on the compression fitting itself). I went to home depot and got a replacement and no more leaks.

Thanks for all the replies. I went with the double 5.25 bay reservoir raystorm 360 from frozen cpu. Is frozencpu the only us company that deals with and sells the uk based xspc?

I've had bad luck with the XSPC kits with the built in pump in the res (not the D5 variant). I've had 2 go bad in the past 3 years and just upgraded my pump to a swiftech 350 pump with the XSPC top a friend had from his previous build.

Down the road i'd like to get a 655, but this 350 seems very nice and is so much quieter than that xspc pump.
