ok, my new xqpack needs help.
It is loud enough I can hear it 30 feet away in another room with the door closed!
admittedly this is under load running prime95 on both cores, but... I would prefer something a little less intense volume wise.

I have a MSI K8NGM2-FID in my xqpack with an opteron 170 running at 2.5Ghz.
What can cool it with a reasonably decent sound level, and will fit in the case?

I would prefer not to water cool, I am already low on room due to the 3 hard drives, liberty PSU and ati xt1900xt.

So what fits? and is quieter that the insane fan on the heatpipe heatsink it came with?

What HSF do you have now? If it's a Thermalright or Thermaltake, you might just want to see if a fan controller and a larger fan might help your noise levels. I think that most people are using the Zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu in the Qpack. I have that cooling my Athlon64 3500+ in my media PC. Between that and the Liberty PSU, its a pretty quiet setup.

i have the same setup pretty much, less the 3rd hd

its probably your video card that making so much noise

the stock amd heatsink is really quiet, and i have no problems keeping my 170 cool in my qpack, max is like 50*C when i load both with the fan at 1500rpm

Kick the stock case fan to the curb too if youre still using it. Pick up japanaflo, yate loon, or one of the many other quiet 120mm fans and undervolt them.

nope, was the heatsink fan for the proc. as soon as I removed the case lid, and put a fan directly on it, temp dropped radically. I already picked up a super quiet 120mm case fan. I am thinking blowhole directly accross from proc.
