Got an XPS 600 which is a couple of months old and the heat that comes out of it is crazy. I would like to know if there is an after market hardware that could cool it off a little.
Thanks

Try something from Vantech called LapCool. There are other brands but the principle is always the same: It's a plastic/aluminum housing with 2-3 fans that take heat away from the laptop.

That being said, I'd say they work with various degrees of success. Some have built in media card readers, others have USB hubs built in.

That's an example of the one my friend got... I have a cheaper on (Lapcool 3) that is good.

Regards,

Chris

The XPS 600 is a desktop, the Lapcool will not work. Open it up and blow all the dust out, and maybe aim a fan at it.

No. Heat coming out of the computer is a good thing, it means the heat isn't staying IN the computer lol. Now if you are referring to the processor running hot, then there are things you can do. But if you intended to say what you did (that there is a lot of heat being exhausted) then no there is nothing you can do about that, without voiding your warranty.

About the only way to keep a PC from heating up the room is to watercool it and put the radiator in a different area with long tubes connecting it to the PC. You can also duct the hot exhaust somewhere else.

Woops... boy is my face red. :p

In that case... monitor your CPU temps to make sure nothing is overheating.. in any case if it did get too hot the speed would be throttled anyways, so I wouldn't worry about any sort of damage...

As said previously, you could improved fans for better airflow but it is totally normal to get some heat... I wouldn't be too concerned about it though, so long as the processor isn't being throttled.

Chris

Thanks but this machine is a heat genereator, I dont want to void my warranty by adding extra hardware to it.

call dell up and ask if you can change the fans and keep your warranty...

here's the answer:
NO, DELL will not let you open ur computer or mess w/ the hardware if u are not DCSE. Dell Certified Service Expert, it voids ur warranty. Here's what DELL's gonna do: " We are going to send a technician out to your house and do it for you w/ a charge of $$$$$$$"

100% wrong. my friend bought an XPS 600 in november, dell screwed up big time replacing the ram and told my friends dad to open it and remove the stick because it was bad as well (the new one) and no penalty

[edit] and when they DID send a tech the first time they charged nothing... no, he had no extra special warranty either...

thats because sending a tech was part of the inhouse warranty of 1 year. ur friends dad opened it because it was dells fault, and sending a technician out would cost more compared to having ur friends dad opened the computer w/ tech support on the phone telling ur friends dad what to do.

i have worked as DCSE for dell for 5 years(a lifetime ago). believe me i know how it works.

thats the exact reason I dont run Dell's anymore.....I seriously doubt the phone tech has an incling of what your saying. Dell phone techs are the SuxXx0rz

they don't suxxorz when i was still there. the reason: u talk to americans who can actually understand u, and SOME of them acutually used to be FSE's Field ServiceEngineers before they moved to tech support. nowadays, when u call DELL u get tech support from India, Pakistan, Philippines and some other country who don't really understand what u mean.

Thats why I always DEMAND to speak to a manager b/c speaking with another rep is basically a dead end.

creamypie please clarify something. Are you upset with the amount of heat the computer is putting out into your room? If so adding new fans will not help anything. If that is the case there is nothing you can do really unless you want to get into some really complicated stuff. Heat is just something that comes with the territory in high powered computers. If you dont like the heat put the computer into sleep mode whenever you aren't using it.

The machine came with fans n all but I was looking for an after market fan which can lower the current heat coming out of this box. I previously built a machine which had 3 fans but wasnt as hot this xps 600.

lol...you think like I do. When people mention Dell and they aren't talking about their work comp I automatically think laptop. This forum is full of gamers and build your own people and Dell just recently started making decent gaming rigs.

So your effectively saying what I am. I went to Dell during that switch, and boy was I disappointed......Sorry, but if you dont know the product U sell, then you shouldnt be a phone tech, agreed???

I called with a simple Q about my GPU, and well, they didnt have a friggin clue. Hell, they asked me what a 6800 was (at that time) Not only that, they use names that arent even close. Dont tell me your name is Bob when its Abu Babushi......or WTF ever. See my point??? Im not racist by the way, but this is one of my soapboxes
