I was looking on the microsoft website and noticed a trial of the new 64bit OS so i went thru the whole deal with filling out the forms and it informed me that their was not a DL version ready yet ..... you just had to order it and pay S/H charges . Anyone have other means of getting this ?

I had the same problem, so I ended up downloading it via a questionable means.

BTW, this is not a video cards problem. ^^

The beta was available for download. However now that it has been released you need to buy a copy.

buy it. Its not an upgrade from any previous version of windows, and MS isnt going to go charity any time soon and start tossing OS's out to the world ;). The only other way i can recall is if you were a long standing member of MSN or something then you recieved it free via DL with a code.

When was this decided?

Last I read, it was a free upgrade for whoever owned a legal copy of XP Pro. Originally, I read that they were not releasing it as stand alone, but only as OEM or download.

Think I read this in Maximum PC.
