how do the XP2500+ barton's over clock??? right now i got a XP1700 oc/ed to 2.3ghz and it's getting kinda slow for multitasking. if that barton isn't that good recommend me one for around 100, 512k cache is a must

The chip will probalby not do too much for you. Try another stick of 512, and a fresh reinstall of windows.

i agree with him
a Xp2500 might do some good with the extra 256k cache
but i donno
try more and GOOD RAM
hehe
and do a new load of windows

To answer your question about overclocking, I just bought a locked 2500+ that runs stably at 2.31 (11x210) @ 1.75 Vcore and
131F at load.

hmm ok maybe i would need more ram, ..... wut do u mean by good ram... my ocsystem ram is actually decent, i've been running it at 2.7v and it's o/ced a bit

I say if your board supports the Barton core, go for it. You should be able to get 200 x 11 which will help way more than the extra memory. My Barton (week 27 from newegg) does 227 x 11.5 if pushed but runs at a sweet 225 x 11 at stock voltage.

Now for the memory.... if you are running Win98 or 2000, 512 mb is perfect. Windows XP seems to like a gig of ram.

i'm runnin xp and i can't get my cpu over 200fsb or even close due to no lock on pci
anything higher screws up my hdd, so i'm stuck playing with multipliers

if it was locked... how did you unlock it? mine wasnt locked...

The multiplier is locked on those I think. Not the FSB. You can FSB OC it all day on any of them. Just so long as you stay with a multi of 11.

to see the real benefit of the barton 2500 upgrade you would almost need to ditch your KD7 in favor of an NF2 mobo like the downright bad@$$ abit NF7 series. Additionally, you will need some really fast ram to go with it - like corsair or ocz that will hack 200mhz+ fsb settings 6:6 in sync with tight timings.

even if you get a multiplier locked 2500, you can still crank the fsb way up -- caveat: good cooling required for anything over 210.
