athlon xp 2400+ @ 2.2ghz
abit nf7-s (v2)
1GB Kingmax PC3500
Antec truepower 480w
160GB Seagate 7200rpm

currently have a 9800xt, but I ordered a x800pro vivo which I plan on modding to x800xtpe.

Now obviously the system will be somewhat of a bottleneck for this card, but my question is how much? I'm assuming I will see a good performance increase with this card, and I usually play games at 1024x768 with settings as high as its smooth. My goal in getting this card was to allow me to play at higher settings and increase the framerates in current games and also for new games like Call of Duty 2 (demo was hurting my system), and TES4:Oblivion.

I basicly wanted to get the most out of a ~$200 upgrade, I felt I made the best choice. Had I been able to spend an additional $250 I would have picked up a A64 3000+ Venice, and DFI Ultra Infinity, but that will have to wait.

Anyway, anyone have any inputs into how much of a performance increase I should get or how much of a bottleneck my system is to the video card?

if you play the cpu properly it should do okay. You've got a very capable nfoce2 board there, so try not only for a high overclock, but particularly a high fsb overclock. The stock 15 x 133 setup is very bandwidth limited, and so will any overclock with that high of a multi. If you can drop the multi way down and get your fsb 1:1 at 200mhz or above it should be able to compete okay. I used to have a 2400+ on an A7N8X deluxe 2.0 and I ran it 1:1 at 11 x 215, and it was able to put out some pretty impressive performance at those speeds. Though to be fair, it did get absolutely destroyed by the 3000+ newcastle I had after it.

Really?, I currently have a mobile 2400+ @ 2400mhz on an AN7 with water. It can go much higher but is Rock stable at this clock with the room temp climbing into the high 90's

I plan to upgrade to a 4000+, can I expect to see a big diff? Most games I play are at 10 x 7 however warhammer 40k is sluggish at that res with aa etc. on. At any rate I have always assumed that the A64 were not that much faster than the xp's

A 2400 will get killed by an A64, my 3D mark 03 score went up a full 1500 pts. by getting a 3500 and a gig of 3200 RAM. that X800 (more powerful than my 6800) and the 2400 (less powerful than my 2500) are not a good pair, but you can get by.

Yes it will bottleneck. I have a 2600 and a X800XTPE. Its run very fast. But it still slows down a little bit when playing on the HL2 engine when lots is happening. It wouldn't with a nice A64

I am planning on getting the same X800 VIVO and unlocking it. I have the setup in my SIG below. It is a great system and I don't want to let it go for another year or so. I tried my friend's 6800 and the difference was night and day for BF2. I remember back in the day when everyone had a GF1, my friend's dad put a GF2 on his crappy HP P2-350 but it suddenly was faster than all of our better systems in CS. I'm pretty sure I can find a repeat preformance.... Some games like UT2k3 will always be CPU limited, but modern shader this shader that games are more about the video card :)
