So after I installed my new mobo and proc, I got most everything working, then I installed SP1 and everything went haywire. After it loaded XP pro screne came up, it went to a black screne where the led on my moniter would go yellow then back to green while the computer restarted and keep doing this in a cycle.

Now when I reformat it will go and it will do the random restarts that it has been doing. It is doing the same thing that it did when I had it in windows. It would let me put in my key, and shortly after it would restart and do the same win xp install again. It will just keep doing this in a cycle.

What is going wrong?
I was thinking of taking everything out of my case and putting it back in.

My new parts were a IC7G and a 2.4C that I both got of these forums.

When I had it in windows, it would also randomly restart like it was doing. It would freeze, some people thought it was my ram.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Could be bad memory....try running memtest on it and seeing how it is.

Like I said before, when I first got my ram it was doing that, and then it seemed to stop, I can't even install XP now, I am going to reorganize my case now, wish me luck.

Reseat the RAM and try different combinations of sticks in different slots. Restarts can almost always be attributed either to RAM or power supplies.

KK I am starting to get a pretty good feal that it is my ram.

2 reasons,
When I 1st got it, it did not do that, and I realized that the ram was not worse than my old stuff, so it had to be just a glitch, and it seemed to of fixed it self.

2nd, you guys are all telling me that its not

What should I do, change the timmings,
It is a 512 Stick of Corsair XMS PC 2700

those are the exact specs

i need help guyzz

Maybe your power supply?

Or it could be your proccessor is overheating?
Motherboard grounding?

try running RAM at higher voltage and looser timings ... you have a P4C ... it needs PC3200 just to run @ default ... have you tried lowering your FSB and see if it becomes stable?

It is not overheating. It is a 2.4C 800 FSB, so what should I change my FSB to? Up my voltage on my ram to 2.7?

It is not overheating, it is reading at 40, which is really 30 because the IC7G measures 10-15 C higher.

EDIT* I am getting some new 2 x 256 PC 3500 Hyper X soon. What should I loose my timings to, it is set on By User SPD.
I will check my rails, tho they were under .6 when I looked at em.

You shouldn't have any voltages turned up from stock on anything if your having problems with your comp. Thats prob why everythings going to hell.

Try setting your bios to safe mode and see if that does anything. If not then it's prob your Ram.

dude you should be running pc3200 in that rig

For now you need to set your memroy freqency to auto and hope she stays stable. The AI will run the memory as high as she will go without loss of stability. IF its good ram it will survive if you go manual and set the frequency at 400 in that will give affectively overclcok your memory at 3200 leave voltage at auto. They may work for you? good luck.

also those boards dont read the spd correctly so you have to go manual on your memory timings.

I got most everything working, then I installed SP1 and everything went haywire.

NOT that this IS your problem now, but when you get up and running again and IF you xp PRO is not.....shall we say.....legit........stay away from installing SP1. It will probably report that your Key can not be verified, etc. I'm no conspiracy theorist, but at that point IF I were MS.....why wouldn't I throw some monkey wrenches into your system??? What are you going to do.....call customer support? LOL Not that I've had this experience myself.....I'm only passing on what I've heard ;-)

But for your current problem: Don't run anything ABOVE SPEC while you are having issues. THAT is a receipe for a severe frustration headache! Listem to 3l3m3nt and run a default settings until you are running stable.

from what I gather ... his memory is out of spec ... being PC2700 ... so he's OCing it to run the CPU @ spec ....

so what should I change my ram to.

It was not legit.

However I do own a xp home copy that I can install. Set everything to fail save settings and try that?

What should I change my timings to?

EDIT_i just reaized that my 12 volt line is reading at 11.79, thats to low rite, my 5 volt is 4.94, isen't that to low?

Those readings aren't anything to be worried about. As long as you have your ram in the right slots and your bios is running in safe mode you should be alright... unless your ram has gone bad.

Also unplug any unnecessary things from your motherboard... sound cards/etc.. also make sure you only have your primary OS hard drive plugged in... if you have any other problems try checking your cpu and making sure it's not overheating or something.

I have my 120 that I have in 3 partitions 10-70-40 and a 80 giger.
I totaly redit my 120, but I left my 80 giger which I left all my apps and files on, thats running rite now, should I unplug it?

You don't need to unplug the second drive, assuming it's not the problem.

It shouldn't be, so I'd leave it.

BUt what the hell is my primary problem?

Could it be that I am not using a legit key, should I try the ram in all 4 slots? Up the voltage the timings are 2.5 7 2 2 (maybe 2 instead of 2.5, tho i think its 2.5)

c'mon guys i need 2 get this working

That attitude is going to do shit. Furthermore, your not even answering the questions. It's been posed several times that your memory may be running out of spec. You have PC2700 in a system that should have PC3200. Now, what do you have the memory set at in the BIOS. Forget voltages, forget timings, forget all that other crap. Start with the basics. If your memory is set to run at too high of a speed, it will certainly cause all the problems your having. If you don't understand how to set the memory, or what the speeds should be, perhaps you should find a friend who does and have them set it for you. Memory that's pushed too far will cause the type of errors your having.

PS> Having a legit OS key before asking for help is always a good thing too.

Like I said I am getting 2 x 256 Kingston HyperX sticks of 3500 soon, hopefully this week.

My timings are 2.5-7-3-3 so I stand corrected runnin at 2.6v.

use at least PC3200 mem and go from there ...you could possible try setting you divider to 5:4 or3:2 if you insist on the PC2700 stuff ...but if it aint BH-5 stuff ..dont hold your breath

if you think you PC2700 stuff can take it , that mobo has the vdimm mod on it so you can run mem at 3.0v's

but you'd be winding up that me pretty tight just to run stock speeds

well like i said I am getting new ram, but I gotta send my old mobo out and psu and I just wanna make shure that it works before i give my old parts out (he bought them)

if you have a friend that has some pc3200 stuff ...see if he will let you borrow

but your problem is the pc2700 stuff betchya dollars to doughnuts ...or however that saying goes ...:p

I have a 300 w psu, someone told me that I ain't getting enough power, I am getting my new ram soon, I just want it to run properly, can I get by with pc 2700?

300wtt is a bit lite ..especially if you runnen all those drives

you prolly wont get setup to run rite with pc2700 ..unless its really good stuff ...but if it was ...you wouldnt be having a problem with it then

so 2 negatives against you ..

1:A PSU thats a bit on the weak side
2:not using the properly rated ram for your setup

I just picked up a Enermax 465W psu for 100 Canadian. I am gonna install it and give it a go.

Back to your original problem ....

XP won't install

I HAVE had Windows refuse to install due to bad memory. It would CONSISTENTLY get all the way to the final reboot and then come up with an error. New RAM fixed the problem - Crucial warrantied it without question ..... which is why I always buy from them.

Well hopefully my new ram should be here tommorow, and I am going to take and put back everything into my case.

On another note, when I installed my new PS, and booted up it would not detect my RAM or HDD. Bot tommorow when I redo everything again I will.

when you reassemble the system ... start with the basics first ... CPU. RAM video card on mobo ... then reset the BIOS to default.

Install Harddrive, CDROM ... and install windows (or whatever OS you want).

Install all others after this is all configured ...
