Alright people, I know I'm asking NOOB questions. But I would really appreciate it if anyone can answer it. Does windows XP professional have microsoft office (word, excel, powerpoint...etc.)??

Actually I'll be purchasing a new laptop. And, I need to use microsoft word. Thats why I ask.

Oh, and can we upgrade from xp pro to vista later on for free?? Will the microsoft word disappear from my computer?!!!

MS Office (includes word) doesnt come as standard with XP. You have to buy it unless it comes bundled with the laptop but usually they are trial disks.

If it doesn't explicitly say that they are bundling MS Office with your laptop purchase, it can safely be assumed that it is not included, or as the user above me suggested, you may receive trial disks. MS Office is not a default part of XP Pro, it is separate software.

Most computer 'bundles' nowadays which boast that they include MS Office include only the freely available and time-limited 'trial' version. MS Office is a separate purchase which has never been 'included' with any Windows version purchase.

Windows XP Professional also does not come with a 'free upgrade' to Vista.

You might find a store selling such packages as a 'special offer', but it would be a special sales offer of the store - it's not any standard arrangement with Windows.

If you install Vista later as an upgrade MS Word would remain in place. If you installed Vista as a clean install it would not remain in place - you'd have to reinstall it again afterwards.
