Last year I purchased a Microsoft Devloper pack which came w/ 10 licences of just about every microsoft product including XP Pro. A couple of months ago I got a letter from MS telling me to shred all media and licences because it had expired. Now I need to install a fresh XP Pro (windows is hosed), is there a number to call to let them know why I need a new key?

Sorry if this question has already been answered some where else.
 
What was the "developer pack" called? Perhaps the Microsoft Action Pack?

The action pack licensing specifically calls for renewal each year (subscription based) in order to be legally entitled to running all the software and licenses hence the letter from Microsoft stating your subscription has expired.

Microsoft is not going to "give" you a new key, you need to purchase a legal license to continue using Windows.
 
IIRC those are subscription services. Your subscription expired, you need to renew.

It might have been an Action Pack, but I belive it was a Developer pack for ~400. The letter I got never said I had to uninstall any products or quit using them, the refered only to not installing anymore of the software after the end date.
 
Ouch. Did you buy that pack because you got a good deal on all the licenses? Gotta read the fine print next time.
 
Call MS and ask them the details, if you can't even tell us what you bought, we can't tell you the terms.

I think both are similar subscription plans, with the dev. kit having more software to choose from.
 
There are only two items MS has sold that sound remotely close to what your describing.

One being the Action Pack and the other being their Empower ISV program.

Both gave multiple quantities of licenses for various software products, however you most likely failed to read the fine print as S1nF1xx already mentioned.

In the case of an expired action pack, you must cease using the software and destroy any copies you have along with licenses. Although you should be able to renew the subscription and continue using the software.

In the case of the Empower ISV program, you can only renew for up to two years and required you to develop and release a software product within 2 years and the benefits lapse after that meaning you are legally required to cease using the software provided by the Empower Program.

See now I dont see that here in faq for the action pack

it says the agreement is for 1 year and you'll get quarterly updates but I dont see where it says you must stop using the software after that or where your required to renew to continue using it

edit : my reasoning on this is also that when I get my last quarterly update, in theory my agreement ends in 90 days.. thats all the time I get to use those programs? that cant be right.

Essentially they are saying that you must keep an up to date subscription for continued use. I had received a letter a long time back when they had some mix up with my subscription that had in effect stated I had to destroy all copies, licenses, and cease using the AP software.
