XP or Vista?

I'm just up to the last step of my new rig, XP or Vista?
I'm leaning towards Vista, but just want a confirmation from a couple of experts here

I agree.I have Vista and love it.Installed SP1 and now I have problems.There is nothing that really needs saving so I am going to step back.NOT everyone has these problems and they swear by vista.Others will answer to your question.peace

Agree- post your specs.

Bottom line is we can tell you if it'll run Vista, or run it well, or not at all.

As for whether you should switch... Search for "XP Vista" and you'll get hundreds of threads asking the same question... It all boils down to personal preference (And what you use the machine for can make a difference as well, if you're a general user- Vista has a high chance of being perfectly fine for you, versus being a user that has to run some propriety application).

I'd say spend your money on the OS that's not at end of life...

Go with XP, at least until Windows 7 is out. I can only hope that then the GUI won't look like a 15 year old's first day in Photoshop.

I am going to be a little more pro Vista than the other posters. For me, Vista just works better than XP. That said, I made the commitment to make sure than ALL of my software and hardware was Vista compatible and for me that wasn’t difficult.

I find Vista overall more stable and more responsive under load than XP. It doesn’t have many new features over XP; however one that it does have, Desktop search, is proving to be more valuable each day to me. Finding is so much easier now.

It’s up to you however to do the research and determine if Vista will work for you. Maybe it won’t because there’s some hardware or software issue that you might have. But with completely new hardware you shouldn’t have Vista compatibility issues unless there’s some existing hardware that you are trying to use.

XP isn't at all close to the end of its life. Microsoft will support it for a few more years. It won't be sold much longer, but it'll still be supported.

I say dual boot.

Just need two partitions or two hard drives. Install XP first.

Here's an idea...a radical new idea. Figure out which one suits your needs the best and get it. XP works great, and so does Vista. This question has been asked literally 1000 times, and only serves to bring on a debate. Do your own reading and researching, and make up your mind, since it is your computer. Both are very legitimate choices and BOTH work great.

Depends, the bottom line is if your new rig is one of those $299 specials from Dell or Wal-mart that has less than 1GB of ram and on-board video, then you're much better off with XP. If it's decent system with a 2.0GHz+ dual-core CPU and 2GB or more of RAM and a decent video card, then go with Vista.
