Hi all, i'm building a new WOW system. But im not sure what OS I want to get for the new build. I know XP is a good choice. But will lose support shortly. Does Vista 32bit run WOW with any problems. Or atleast as good as XP. Please share your imput. Thanks

Vista 64-bit works just fine for WoW. Shouldn't be messing with anything 32-bit nowadays.

Both work fine.
I use vista 64 because I have 4gb of ram (which in turn helps wow). As mentioned above, I wouldn't even bother with a 32bit os anymore. If you are bent on xp, try out xp 64.

If you're going to BUY a new OS:

- AND if WoW works on Windows 7 Beta 64-bit (someone should know by now)

Then just use the Windows 7 Beta until Windows 7 retail becomes available.

I highly doubt that the Windows 7 Beta will be functional until the the OS is available. My guess is that there will be a few months (at least) the beta expiration and when it's actually available.

If you're buying a PC now, and the OS is part of the package, go Vista 64. I've got 2 different machines running it and WOW played nicely. If you have an XP license already, then I would probably hold off and wait for Win7 to be released and run XP until then.

Make sure you get at least 4GB of RAM. It's a relatively cheap upgrade for the performance boost you will receive. My machine with 2gb doesn't seem to run as smooth as my wife's with 4gb. The rest of the systems are very similar. 2GB will do, but 4GB is a sweet spot.

Even if you're going to run XP32 (until Win7 comes out), load it up with RAM. If it sits there unused until then, well -- you'll have it and be ready to go!

XP will still be supported for many more years. If you already have a copy of XP, I wouldn't buy Vista with Windows 7 coming out this year.

I'd stick with XP, or go with Windows 7 beta for now.

If you run a lot of programs I wouldn't use 7 beta. Some stuff is still funny in it and some programs don't run right. If you think you might want 7, just stick with XP and buy 7 but if you want something nice to hold you over, Vista is a great OS.

No problems with Win 7(beta), WoW runs great, and so does everthing else I have tried so far!

I would reconmend, if you use it just for wow and surfing, is re-use your xp keys, if they can be used, and then upgrade to windows 7 when it is available.

Windows 7 is basically a cleaned up and optimized vista, and since the drivers are compatible with vista also...

Not all vista drivers are compatible with win7.

VHP x64 runs WoW just great. Plus, since WoW loves memory it gets to use all my memory.

For WoW it really doesn't matter what OS you use, it will run fine on any supported OS.

You sure about that? I too run WoW on a 4GB system, and I still have memory available on Vista 64 with WoW running.

Vista 64 here, on my rig and my laptop. I have no issues playing at 1650 or 1920, 4 or 6 gigs of ram.

I have of problems with WoW and Vista x64.
I have the same problem as many other people who run at a high res with graphic options all at full :/
Flying usually near Darlan can cause WoW to use 1.7 gigs of ram and then crash.

Take a look at
http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f204/44283-vista-dalaran-critical-errors.html

I hae the same problem. Its not as bad if you remember to turn down the shadows after you port back to Dalaran. You'll still crash, but usually only once.

If money is completely a non-issue, I'd get 64-bit Vista over staying with XP or Windows 7 Beta.

WinXP 32bit is still the best gaming os. Newer isn't always better

I didn't really notice a difference switching from XP32 to Vista64. Aside from more crashes on Vista64.

If you're just playing WoW and surfing then there is little to no reason to upgrade to Vista.

I went from playing WoW in XP32 to Win7 and it at least feels like it runs better in Win7 (may be since it can access all 4gb of my ram now). My wife has been playing WoW on Vista 64 since November with no issues.

WoW runs well on just about anything including Linux (wine) although since the expansion the game has not been as stable as before on Linux. Frequent crashes and bad performance in Dalaran compared to Windows.

Windows XP/Vista 32/64 all have no problems.

I stopped playing about 2-3 months ago so if much has changed since then as far as stability goes I would't know.

I'm running WoW on Vistax64 @ 1680x1050 with everything but view distance maxed w/ vsync and I love it. I was running it a few months ago with just 2gb of RAM and same OS but there was lots of loading lag in popular hub cities.
