Hello again folks, just got a new Seagate 160 SATA drive and already facing a problem.
First heres my rig :
AMD 64 3000+
2*512 DDR
MSI K8n Neo4 -F mobo
40GB Samsung IDE drive

After setting up the new Seagate drive and booting into XP ,it dosent detect the drive in Windows Explorer.Even the Bios dosent detect the drive.Do I have to install any special drivers for the SATA connectors to be recognised cause this is the first time i'm using SATA.
Please help guys:confused:

Make sure your sata controller is turned on in BIOS. Are there any undetected devices in Device Manager?

Exactly, if the BIOS is not displaying (or incorrectly displaying) the drive, it is not configured right. Maybe re-seat the cables, or try different SATA drives on the same controller or a different controller to the same SATA drive. This will help to narrow down the issue.

Found the problem ,I did'nt enable the SATA ports in the BIOS,my bad :p .Everythings cool now .Thanks you guys.:D :D

Just one more thing,I used Seagate's Disk Wizard program to partition the drive, everything went smoothly .But know XP recognises it as a removable drive, like when you plug in your pen drive ,you get that little green arrow at the bottom.
Why is it showing it as a removable drive.I made 3 partitions,1 primary and 2 logical.
Anyone know whats causing this ??Other than that no problem with the drive.

What does disk management see the drive as? (and how does it show its partitions).

Very few circumstances would cause a fixed disk to be seen as a removable one.

Since its a second drive in XP, Id delete all the partitions using Disk Management and then recreate them using it (partition/format from in XP, not the Seagate disk tools)
