Sorry if this belongs in the Networking forum, but it seems more appropriate here.

I just re-installed Xp on my laptop and now I can't resolve the names of any of my PCs on my local lan with the laptop. I can ping and do everything via IP address, but using \\Machine does not work.

Under the wireless card (linksys 54g), I have the standard default stuff installed with QoS Packet Scheduler disabled. Which leave Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Print Sharing and TCP/IP.

Any ideas?

in the properties of tcp/ip make sure used netbios over tcp/ip is checked, its on the wins tab.

You might also try adding the names of the computers to your hosts file.

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Here is a copy of a hosts file, so you see the format.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1995 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows NT.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
172.16.1.13 zenwsimport
172.16.1.13 zenwsremove
172.16.2.151 unifi01
