Hey there,

I'm a noob to this so I'm looking for OC'ing advice.

When running with my FSB: DRAM ratio at 1:1 (5:5) I can't get the memory stable above 200mhz FSB (ram at 400mhz with loose timings i.e 2.5-3-4-11).
If I set the ratio to 5:6 I can get the FSB up to 219 but the ram is only at 365mhz but the timings are better (2-3-2-11)

It it better for me to clock it to 200FSB and just up the multi from there, or should I drop the 5:6 divider in and go from there?

and "Get better ram" is not an option right now :p

thx,

Red

Why not run some benchmarks at each setting and see which is fastest for you? My intuition would be to set the RAM to have the fastest timings, even if it means a slightly slower bus.

you're not the only one faced with that unpleasant choice, although in my case it is my board and not my ram that is the problem.

i would say that you would be better off getting your timings as tight as you can at 200 memory speed, keep the ration at 1:1, and get however high a multi you can pull.

just be sure to use memtest or somethig else dos-based when you are first roughing things in, so you don't kill your windows install.

did some benching last night using 3Dmark 03

1:1 @ 200x12 beats 6:5 @ 219x11 by 200 points!

well I guess I have an answer.

Thx
