I've recently been encountering logon delays in Xp. The machine in question autologons and the problems pretty much came out of the blue. The only thing I've installed recently was a windows update and Office 2000. However, I've disabled the office startup with msconfig. In bootvis it appears to be network related, but I've disabled every service I can think of and even changed from dynamic ip to static. What else could I take a look at? The machine is brand new and had been running perfectly. The delay is only about 5 seconds but is still rather annoying. As a note, the delay accompanies the windows logon screen.

The Event Log lists a couple of errors lodding device drivers. It does not list which ones it had problems loading, however it says that I either don't have sufficient credentials or there is a problem with the file or device. Is there any way of telling what driver is causing the problem?

Ok, I had forgot to install the drivers for my dvd decoder card so doing that fixed the eventlog errors. However, my logon problem persists. Any more ideas?

I figured it out. For future reference to anyone else:

I had accidently set netBIOS over TCP/IP to discover from DHCP server. I changed it to enable and everything works fine now.

don't mean to hijack the thread but is there a way to view an event log from teh DOS prompt? or is it strictly GUI?

Thanks
