Alright, my girlfriend has an HP that has windows XP home installed but, of course, comes with no actual Windows XP home CD. I was wondering if I could use one of my Xp home CDs with her key, which is printed on the side of her case. It should have no problem registering with microsoft since it will be the same user information and the same hardware in the system. This should work shouldn't it?

I guess what I am asking is....can you use any Windows XP home cd with any valid CD-key?

as far as I know that's fine. as long as the key isn't whored out more than mariah carey's vagina.

Not necessarily. Most of the major vendors use OEM keys which are different than the keys that you get when you buy retail. Can you use the CD? Absolutley. But, if your copy of XP isn't an OEM version, then you are probably not going to get it to work.

I bought my copy OEM off of ebay. I guess I'll give it a try and if I screw things up I still have the restore partition.

Thanks for the info guys.
