I'm running Beta of Vista (32bit) with the Beta ATI drivers, and well the performance sucks on the beta Vista driver. For example, I installed Empire at War on my desktop with a X850XL and it ran like a slide show at any resolution...worse then running it on my laptop (see sig)..anyone try this or have any success with XP drivers on Vista?

You can't use the XP drivers on Vista. They don't support DX 10 and the new graphical layer for Vista.

It's not a problem with the drivers, it's a problem with Vista itself.

I uninstalled and went back to XP. Wasn't happy.

dunno about the video drivers...but my printer and scanner are using XP drivers on Vista.

As for performance...yeah...the ATI beta drivers suck. I played some oblivion at 1280x1024 with all the settings maxxed and no AA and it still stutters.

Haven't tried in XP yet though. haven't had the time.

Vista is still in the work stage (hence beta 2/3) so there are going to be problems. Also, ATi and nVidia drivers are just beta and the first drivers they ever made for this OS, so there are bound to be problems and such.

Hopefully by retail launch, things will be worked out and things will run good. I like the look of Vista, but dualboot with XP just to game at this time.
