Has anyone resolved this issue before? I have a system that is unable to map shares from one particular server, the net use command gives a system error 67, but can map via IP, and can map shares by name for any of our other servers. All of our other PCs are working fine, I have tried reinstalling the Client for Microsoft Networks to no avail and I'm not too sure where to go from here.
 
what happens when you try to browse to the server in question via \\servername\share ?

have you flushed the dns cache?
 
Is the DNS set correctly on this computer? Have you ran net use to see what connections are already made?

Yeah the dns has been pulled correctly from our DHCP, according to net use they have two connections to the server we're having issues with via IP and one via name to a server at another location.

go straight to ip like a quick C$ lookup? also what happens when you \\ it?

can you ping from box to server and server to box? Im sure this was looked at... but just asking

I can ping the server, I don't have access to the server to ping back, unfortunately our servers are tight and I can't access the C$, but I can access the shares I need via IP.
 
I seen this before about a year and a half ago with one of our clients. At the time my coworker decided the way to fix the machine was a repair install (might have even been a clean install) of XP on the machine. I do recall I did some searching online and found what the issue was / could have been. However now I can't remember what it was. :(

is the time on it correct?
 
what happens when you ping the server by name?
have you flushed the DNS cache on the XP machine?
 
i would try a hosts file entry, and possibly an entry in key manager.
these arent real solutions, as the underlying problem will still be there, but its a possibility to get you up and running.
and im going to assume youve rebooted or atleast stop start on the server service on both computers?
and have you tried hitting the FQDN over the netbios name?
what is the DNS server and what is the DHCP server (if used)?
what DNS server does the problem server look to?
