XP doesn't see HDD

I installed a new WD 36gig Raptor. I got it running fine, with XP installed. But now, windows can't see my old 80gig maxtor that has all my backup stuff on it. Is there any way to get XP to see this?

Does it show up in the BIOS? Check jumpers and your cabling if its an IDE drive.
 
Check to see if your system has an either/or system, where it will use either the two SATA drive connectors and the second IDE connector or both IDE connectors and no SATA.
 
Still need help with this...I have a hard time believing an MSI K8N Neo is an either/or system.
 
did you check the jumpers on the HDD? try setting it to cable select and is it showing up in BIOS?? If it is try disk management
 
Ok. first I am still kind of noobish.

I did check the jumpers, I set it as master, didn't work
slave, didn't work
CS, didn't work

Won't recognize it any way I do it.

Yes it shows up in BIOS just fine

Don't know what disc management is.
 
right click "My Computer" and choose manage, then click disk managment, under storage. It probably just needs a new drive letter or something.
 
Ok here is what I've done so far:

All of my drivers are the most up to date on each HDD.

They both have service pack 2.

They both obviously have XP installed on them.

If I boot from my Maxtor, I can see my raptor as drive F:

If I boot from my Raptor, I cannot see my Maxtor.

Disk Management does not show anything either so it's not just that the Maxtor wasn't assigned a drive path. It's completely not there.

RAID was turned off in BIOS, as the maxtor would not even be recognized by BIOS with it turned on.

I've tried every possible jumper combination possible on the maxtor, though I haven't touched the raptor jumpers.

Anyway, that's my update.
 
Assuming you have Windows installed on the old drive and had it running as your system drive before, you could set it back up that way and then set the raptor up as an additional drive and copy your files over (reversing back to your raptor at the end, of course).

That doesn't fix your problem of it not showing up when it's set up the way you have it now but at least you'll have your files.
 
For some odd reason is IDE disabled in the bios? I know on my board you can turn off IDE 1 and 2.
 
I don't believe so, after all, why would I be able to boot XP from the IDE drive and see my raptor, but not vice versa if that were the case?
