Okay, so today it's been so awesome. This is what happened:
got nfsu 2 and eq2, couple days ago just installed rome total war.
downloaded some live mixes, and finished preloading hl2 from steam (takes forever)
then i am shutting down my computer to restart and it totally freezes, only option is to reset it. boom. raid 0 crashes and everything is gone.
I try numerous "data recovery" programs to no avail, 2 hours and 5 shots of liquor later, I give up and reinstall xp.
Now I am sitting here at sp2 with xp installed on my seagate serial ata 160gbyte hd.
Before on my raid 0 setup it took approximately 13 passes of the windows xp bar before it went into windows.
Now that windows xp is installed on the single 160gbyte 7200rpm drive, it takes in excess of 20 passes of the windows xp bar to load.
Now, get this. I have a mini pc, the specs are much crappier than that of my main rig. It only takes 4 passes of the windows xp bar before it gets to windows xp! both installs of windows xp are practically the same. Here are the details:
main rig (supposedly fast, ya'd think it would load xp way faster than my mini pc)
3.2 prescott
1gb ram in ddr mode (4x256 pc3200)
7200rpm sata 160gb 8mb cache
2 80gbyte wd 8mb cache hd's (IDE) (not in raid anymore, heh)
radeon 9800 pro
pioneer dvd drive, lite-on cd burner
abit ic7 max mobo, intel 765pe chipset
sb audigy 2 zs platinum
mini pc:
amd xp 2100+
768 mb pc2100
seagate 250gb 7200 rpm hd
geforce ti 4200
shuttle mobo, via chipset (pretty sure)
sb audigy 2 platinum
Why does the crappier mini pc load faster?
Keep in mind I am currently on a fresh install of windows xp, there are at the most 20 processes running right now. And practically no programs loading on startup. What gives?
