Xp boot on external enclosure

I have maxtor160 ata(that old) in external enclosure ceb-35i chieftec. When booting to xp I have blue screen after some loading(i see windows logo and then bsod). The same when i am installing xp.

when instaling vista i have information - can not install vista on removable devics

how to run vista or xp from that external enclousure. or is it impossible ?!

i think i will just purchase another hdd
