XP Boot Issues (Retaining Settings)

Greetings,

I'm having an extremely annoying XP (Pro, SP2) problem that just started a day or two ago.

Every time I boot, XP is booting back with it's original skin (I always choose to use classic) and also the sound settings wont stick (I turn off Windows sounds) and I cant figure out why.

The skin problem happen to me a long time ago a couple of times, but I cant remember what I did back then to fix it, and for some reason I'm think this is something different. The sound setting would only maybe happen occasionally, so I don't know about that.

Never had this happen continually like this and it's a serious annoyance. Anyone can help me out, would be appreciated. It's becoming extremely annoying to have to reset XP's GUI and sound settings every time I boot my system.

Thanks, all.

Anyone?

This stopped momentarily with a couple of boots, then just started again. It's getting aggravating, so any help would be appreciated.

Seems like a stupid problem, but having to reset the GUI and sound settings with every boot is extremely annoying.

Thanks.

I have the same issue, it changes from classic to the default xp style on reboot, also system sounds goes back to default,(I run with system sounds turned off).. It does not do it on every reboot, just every so often.. I never really looked for a way to fix it, since my pc gets rebooted maybe once a week.. But I would like to know the reason it does it.. Anyone have a clue??

Your computer gets rebooted only once a week? So your system is on 24/7? Wow.

Anyway, yeah... this is a serious annoyance, though a small problem.

Someone here has got to know, considering the wealth of knowledge around this place.

It's still a bit intermittent with me, but pretty much every time I turn my system on it's happening now, with the GUI and Windows sounds.

Can someone offer a fix for this irritation?

As much as I know about more technical things, I cant figure this out >_< ... lol.
