My friend just came over to LAN, he has XP I have vista. Both Windows firewalls are off, he ran the network wizard, we are in the same workgroup, he installed LLTD, and I have network discovery on, we both have file sharing on. We both can connect to the internet and ping each other, but neither of us can see each other on the network to share files.

Both of you should be using passwords on your accounts. If that's the case, make sure you both have the Fisher Price Simple Sharing turned off as well.

Since you can ping each other, try connecting through the normal methods, such as \\computername\sharename and it should prompt you for an account.

OK not sure what we did... but the xp computer can see me now, however I cannot see him. Connecting through normal methods does not work. I can see his computer on the network map however I cannot access it there. I turned his simple file sharing off... he is not password protected... I still cannot access his shares.
