I just installed an XP-90C to my P4 2.53GHz!

I've seen a huge reduction in temps! With stock cooler I was getting 44C idle and 56C under load with no overclock! Now i'm on 33C idle and 40C under load! Wow, i'm hoping it gets even better when the Arctic Silver has had time to settle in! I currently have a Zalman fan blowing away from the CPU, is that the best? or should I change it to blow towards?
 
You should have the fan blowing towards the CPU.

There's been a lot of people lately installing the fans backwards on their Thermalright products lately... hmm. :p
 
This is information from Thermalright Support

Copper is great at removing heat from another metal object, but it unfortunately is not that good at disapating heat. So you need a High Power fan blowing directly on the HSF when dealing with a All copper solution.

Aluminum on the other hand doesnt pull heat as quickly, but its very efficient at removing heat from itself with minimal CFM needed.
 
So if I go with the XP-90 aluminum, I should have the fan blow away from the CPU?
 
I've never seen any manufacturers recommendation to have the fan pulling air away from instead of blowing air onto the heatsink. I have all mine blowing towards the heatsink.

Has anyone ever seen this as a recommended method (to have the fan pulling air away)?
 
Always have the fan blowing down, there's no question about it.

If you've got an Alpha or one of the Scythe heatsinks, then you should have the fan blowing upwards.
 
Blowing onto the heatsink will almost always work better. There's more pressure comming out of it than being sucked in.
 
sorry if i'm threadjacking but are their any good comparisons between t he xp-90 and the xp-90c?
 
I always have my fan blowing towards the CPU. Yeah the xp90 is good, but I opt for the XP120 :)
