Which is better? Trying to decide between this heatsinks dont know if i should go with all copper or copper/aluminum that is lightweight and bigger spread.
 
The XP-120 cools better, even though it is aluminium. The problem you might run into is the size. Its massive. Pictures dont do it justice. Make a fist. Put it next to your other one. Unless your name is King Kong, or you suffer from Elephantitis, you've got an approximate size of the heatsink right there.....
 
There are not that many that it wont fit. It fits my A8N-SLI Deluxe okay but only 1 way round. Some of the boards you need to bend some cpacitors out of the way! EEK!

I think I would rather cut/bend some fins on the heatsink instead!
 
go to overclockers.com and look at the heatsink ratings...

the xp-90c and xp-90 both cool better than the xp-120...

i bought and xp-120 when it came out, and yes it was a nice cooler, but IT IS NOT the highest performing cooler...

i bought a coolermaster hyper6 and it performed better than the "greatest ever heatsink" xp-120...

i don't really care if you disagree, but i got lower temps and could overclock higher using the hyper6 and two vantec tornados (at half speed) than an xp-120 with a 100+cfm fan.

the all copper xp-90c cools SLIGHTLY better than the regular xp-90...it is up to you whether 1-2 degrees C is worth 20+ dollars
 
It's still pretty widely considered an aluminium heatsink. Either way it's a good cooler.

Edit: looking more closely I can only find that quote under info for the xp-90. it doesn't say that the xp-120 has a copper base anywhere that I can see
 
right you are, I just couldn't find it on that page that was linked (watching tv, doing homework,....I'm just lazy) Either way, it looks like one of the xp-90s is the best option

Edit: Oh, and starfury6....I hate you so much for having such a nice system :p

With a bit of luck I will get it both quieter and cooler with the NV5's. Just too damned noisy at the moment and I can only get 434/1110 on the cards at the moment. Just far too toasty in there :)

90c wasnt out when I got my 120.

I was just talking generally. But yes, you're right. It's not entirely an aluminium heatsink.

I totally agree with you. The Hyper-6 is a better cooler, but, A) He asked about the Thermalright options, and B) The Hyper-6 is a chunky bitch. It could snap his mobo if he doesnt support it properly...:D
 
XP120 = larger fan = more cooling @ same noise as XP90 or = same cooling at less noise than XP90

the xp-120 wont cool as well as a xp-90 at the same cfm or noise level period...

just because it has a bigger overall layout doesn't mean it is a better cooler...the outside dimensions might be large, but the base fins (the ones directly over the socket area) are smaller than that on the xp-90. there are plenty of low noise 90/92mm fans that can move plenty of air at low sound levels...

the xp-90 is a better cooler than the xp-120 period...tests have proven it

when i got my xp-120 i was dissapointed how SMALL the cooler looked from the side. all the weight of the cooler is towards the top where the fan mounts, and even there the fins are not very tall...

that's why i told him the xp-90 was better than the xp-120 in all areas... :cool:
 
hmmm this is great. ive been looking at some reviews as well, the temps on a 2.4 oc'd to 3.4 with a xp-90c never went past 40 on full load. thats amazing.

i might just get the xp-90 since theres only 1-2c delta against the all copper with is almost $20 extra.
i think i saw someone at 2cpu selling them for $20 a piece i'll probably jsut take that.

All reviews I have seen have the XP-90C edging out the XP-120 with the XP-90 lagging behind a couple of degrees.
