xp-120 problem

i just got my xp-120, but im concerned about one thing before i install it. on the bottom, where it actually goes against the cpu, there are two little nicks in the metal, right on the edge of the heatsink. i can't tell whether or not they jut out the bottom slightly, and i assume that if they did, it could mess up the contact with my cpu, or even damage my cpu cause of the sharp pressure against it (from the metal sticking out). i tried to take a picture but my camera gets to blurry when i try and take a really close up shot.. but does anyone know what i mean? should i just go ahead and install it?

*also another question, the xp-120 i thought will fit on the sli-dr lanparty board but will block one pci-e slot; how come ive read people talking about "horror stories with the xp-120 on the sli-dr" and stuff? is that just bs?*
 
your right to be concerned about he defects in your Heat Sink. If you believe that there is any chance you could damage your CPU by installing it or that you will have poor thermal transfer because of imperfections, send it back. It's not worth the risk of killing your CPU to find out if you were right.

Unless, of course, you are one of those people with an unlimited play budget. Then, by all means, try it out. Just post pics if anything cool happens :D
 
could anyone who got an xp-120 tell me if there were any marks on the bottom of their heatsink?
 
why does the bottom of that one look gold.. mine is silver..

and also i checked where the marks are in relation to the cpu when the heatsink is ontop of it, they don't touch the cpu, its ok.

The camera flash does that, obviously. All XP-120s are silver in colour.
 
mine had a few nicks, granted they were along the edge thus away from where contact would be made with the processor. It didnt matter too much for me though, as I had planned on lapping the heatsink.
