XP-120 or XP-90C

Which is better? Thermaltake XP-120 or the XP-90C

Future comp specs:

AMD64 4000 San Deigo
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
7800GTX
2gig pc-3200
Thermaltake 500w 12.v powersupply

EDIT: it probably depends on the fan, so does anyone have suggestions on fans for these 2?
 
XP-120 is better. If you want quiet, go with the Panaflo L1A, but I personally use the M1A and its not too bad.

What do you base that on?
According to Overclockers.com, the two heatsinks are within a degree or two of each other in cooling ability. The XP-90 also is smaller and fits in more cases and on more motherboards.

If it fits, I'd say go for the XP-120. The prices and the temperatures are about the same. However, the XP-120 also has the ability to cool some of your RAM slots a little bit which is always a plus. Hell, you could even show off to your friends that bigger is always better and that your heatsink could devour their entire families while they had their backs turned.
 
But its twice the weight. i would go with the xp120 for the weight and 120mm fans usually push more air and are quieter.
 
XP-120 will allow, lower RPM fan, the generally moves more air at less Dba. Meaning lower noise to do the smae thing (1% diffrence) as the Xp90 and a louder fan :p
 
i Have used both for a while. If you are going to be changing out CPUs at all then consider the XP-90C it is much easier to get on and off it's mounting brackets. I think I put less strain on the MB too..
 
the xp-90c cools ram too...i have mine hangin over my ram and the fan blows done on em...i say whichever is cheapest
 
Check out this thread. We cover this pretty well there, with links to reviews where they compete directly. But the results are mixed. Faced with the same decision, I went with the XP-90C. It just seemed cooler (no pun intended). :)
 
In the overclockers.com tests, the XP-90 (not the copper version) with a 30 dba 1500 RPM vantec had a C/W of .18

the XP-120 with a similar dba fan that ran 1500 RPM had a C/W of .19

Lower C/W is better.

Results will vary a bit, but you can't assume that the XP-120 is better because it's bigger. If you want bigger just because it's bigger and you like that, or to cool your RAM, that's fine. But don't exaggerate the cooling difference between the two. They have the same essential level of performance with the same sound level fan.

The XP-90C performs better than either, but it is heavier and more expensive.
