This was a major pain in the @$$ to fit. Supposed to fit my ASUS P4C800 just fine, but I had to bend the capacitors back a little. I however took a wonderful bling pic before I installed it in my system.

Nice bling shot aggiec05, and it's alright, wiring in a stock PC6x case is a real pain.....it really doesnt take that much (in terms of case modding) to get it lookin' fricken nice though. PM me if you're intersted in doing up that box right. ;)

I'm not saying it can't be done....but the fact of the matter is that there's no DIRECT way to get behind the mobo tray without cuttingsomething....and i just find it a LOT easier to wire this up cleanly with a hole cut next to the PSU for the wires to go straight to the back of the tray.

true, I ended up doing that, but regardless, he wouldn't need to cut anything to hide some of that birds nest :p

ya so it was hard for me to use it being I got to Texas A&M and our rival tu's color is orange.... but Ill take what I can get.
I am still trying to decide on the color scheme for everything I want to go with, so I will get it all done eventually.

My temps are a little higher with the XP-120 installed.. Im guessing because it is not pushing enough air @ 1100rpms ... so its time to get a fan controller.. any suggestions?
 
i posted the pic, because I remember reading a thread on here where somebody said it would be funny to see. Everyone has always installed the xp-120 before they took a picture of something like I did. Me being a bored college student trying to not study and work on his numerous projects, decided that it would be hilarious to do. I mean its some major bling! :-P
 
omg, I brought up wearing one of those around your neck like a 70's style alarm clock for nerds in a thread a few months back! lmfao nerd bling ftw :D Not sure if you got the idea from our rantings or if it's your own evil doing, but still cool none the less :) That pic just made my day (errr, night rather).

If I'm not mistaken, you've installed the heatpipes in the wrong direction. According to an article I read ( here), the heatpipes should not face the PSU when the mobo is vertical. It can face any other direction.

The following quote is taken from that site:

There are a few minor draw backs when using heatpipe technology in a heatsink such as the XP-90. If you are to ensure that your system is receiving the full benefits of such a design, you have to consider which way to mount the heatsink. Remembering that heatpipe technology relies heavily on gravity to restore the liquid to the bottom of the heatsink, it would be difficult for such a process to take place if the heatsink was upside down. Thermalright have most likely used a method that is called “wicking” or “wick” to reduce the necessity of gravity within the design. This is when the inside of the heatpipes are lined with materials, such as sintered metal or fine wire mesh, which enable the working fluid from the cold end to be compacted back to the hot end, thus allowing the evaporation process to take place once again.

Thermalright state that the best orientation for the XP-90 is to be standing up or laying flat. However, taking into account that the majority of computers out there will install the XP-90 vertically, with the heatpipes at the bottom of the cooler, Thermalright have made sure the cooler will also work well this way. The only method of installation Thermalright don’t recommend for the XP-90 is a vertical installation with the heatpipes at the top of the cooler. This makes sense as once the liquid has been cooled it will struggle to rise back through the heatpipe and into the base.

I presume the same would apply to the XP-120.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
The XP-120 is the first and only (if im not mistaken) heatsink to work either way you mount it...some kinda of special tech....but mine's mounted heatpipes aiming at the bottom of the case so idunno.

Quoted for truth....I have also read the same thing......I haven't seen a lot of difference with the XP-120 temp wise when it comes to mounting it with the pipes pointing different directions.
 
the heat pipes as shown in the pics above blow towards my chipset. The temps have come down since last readings, I believe as the thermalpaste has cured. I want to try it with Artic Silver, but that thing was such a pain in the @$$ to get on the first time. I am running @ Idle about 38-40*C. But the temps are taken through asus probe so I wont vouch for how valid they are.

Asus boards aren't TOO bad for temp readings.....but in general they are still "off" like all others.
 
I have an abit ic7 and a antec p160 case and a ghetto electric thermometer just for confirmation, the mb reads my p4 at 47-50C idle, the antec thermistor reads 33-38C idle and the thermometer as best placed I can get it reads about 33-37C.

One thing for sure is that the xp120 made an improvement over the SP-94 (one with the heat pipes) by a whole 6-8C at idle and weighs less than half the sp-94.

Another thing is for sure....Abit is no good for mobo temp readings....bits been that high with all the abit boards I've owned.

My Asus boards were never that low.....5-10C off on the low side when I used an actual thermometer on the CPU.
 
at least with the abit reading "higher" than actual, you may think its overheating but its not... with some asus boards... well you get the idea. I will say though asus boards are rock solid at stock, but I just like abit-s crazy tweakability.
