I recently got a Xonar U3 usb sound card to replace my failed xonarDG (lost the invoice, couldnt send in for warranty). I also have a modded older x-fi, and switched out the cards depending on my mood. With the usb card, obviously I dont need to do that.

The U3 is just a usb dongle with a few lights on it showing it has power, and inputs for headphones and mic. It comes packaged with a small usb extension cord.

1st thing I noticed is that this is dead silent- no hiss whatsoever, even with the volume up and headphone amp set high. very nice. the software controls are almost identical to regular xonar controls. The built in headphone amp drives most headphones nicely, but wasnt great on some 600 ohm akgs I had (as expected).

My only real complaint on this is that the highest highs and lowest lows dont seem to come through that great, but I feel that way about most c-media chipset sound cards I've heard, including oher xonars.

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase for 30$, it functions as a very decent dac and amp, and has the xonar software for gaming and effects.
