got one a few days ago. cost less than 40$ shipped. couldnt resist. for comparisons sake, i have a modded x-fi i use currently. have had other x-fis, xonars, prelude, and many others.

here's a copy of my post on headfi.
spent some time with it- not as warm sounding as the higher xonar, but better than most cards sound-wise. about on par with my modded x-fi. a little eq goes a long way on this card. dolby headphone is about all thats needed for pc gaming now, as creative's 3d standard is pretty much dead. (tho cmss3d works like dolby headphone for games that support 5.1)

as for the headphone amp in the card- its decent. powered my 250 ohm beyer dt770 non pro ok, tho not fantastic. did great with a jvc rx900 and an audio technica a900. the amp is about on par with a portable amp, like a cmoy, go vibe, etc. for less than 40$ shipped you cant go wrong here

I just ordered one of these from Amazon for $30 shipped. Does anyone have any experience with what headphones would sound good with these? I don't have much ambient noise so optimal quality, and hence open back would be preferred.

I want headphones that are good for general use, music, movies, and gaming.

I have the Asus Xonar DG, which has Dolby Headphone and EAX 5 emulation, and can power headphones with impedance of up to 150Ohms. Please tell me about good value buys south of $150.

Thank you.

for 150$ and the xonar as source consider:

closed headphones- audio technica ath-m50 or ath-t500, jvc harx700 or 900, beyerdynamic dt770/80

open headphones- sennheiser hd555 or 595, audio technica ath-ad500 or ad700, pioneer se-a1000

From the specs, I think the AD500 uses the same 53mm driver that the AD700 uses. The sound must be similar, and I found one for $53 shipped!.

A googling I go.

i have had all the headphones i mentioned. the ad500 is very close to the 700. the 500 is a little bassier, the 700 has bettr highs and details.
headfi is a great place to find headphone opinions
