Xonar DG or Turtle Beach DSS

Ok, here's the scenario. I have a Xonar DG and 2x TB DSS in my possession to use with my Grado SR60i headphones.

TB DSS on PS3, very happy

Xonar DG on PC with headphones direct to card is excellent. Wife wants to listen to speakers on PC, but EMI noise on front panel headphone jack. Have to swap speaker and headphone cable in the back of the PC. Wife not happy. PC speakers are old Altec Lansings, paid $20 for them, but enough for the wife. Headphone amp feature of DG not a deal breaker as the Grado's are easy to drive


Options
1. I could shield the front panel cable ($18 for shielding tape) and keep the Xonar DG in the PC.

2. I could remove the Xonar DG, use on board (Supreme FX X-Fi 2) for wife's speakers and use optical out to the extra DSS for headphones. This makes it simpler by turning of the speakers or DSS when using the other. Good WAF

Questions

1. Which has better sound quality? Xonar DG or TB DSS? I like the DSS on PS3, but I haven't compared them from the same source.

2. I bought a Xonar DX on EBay. Would it trump them both by a noticeable margin? That would prompt me to invest in shielding for the front panel cable and a nice set of speakers for the wife.
 
The DX should be better then the DG, which should be better then the DSS.

In theory, you can install both devices at once and swap between them as needed via the Windows control panel, thus avoiding the front panel jack.

What do people mean when they say one sound card is 'better' than another? Louder bass, mids, treble? Larger sound stage? Less distortion?
 
the DG has a headphone amp built in where as the DX don't


The DG is 5.1 where the DX is 7.1

I have a DG i'm pretty happy with however I am also using a FiiO E9 w/ my headphones because the terrible FP audio cable on my Triton 180 introduces to much noise to use with headphones

so I have Xonar DG > FiiO E9 > line out from FiiO to Pioneer SA-710 /RTi4 speakers


it seems that the DG adds some emphasis to the mids where as the DX is supposedly more neutral
 
There are various types of metal lined EMI shielding tapes at hardware shops.

I am mainly looking for clarity in sound. I would like to hear all elements of what I'm listening to. I don't want things drowned out. It's nice when all frequencies can be accurately reproduced.

I am leaning more towards the DSS because I feel that processing the sound outside of the case would be cleaner. I did find the sound from the DG to be a bit flat compared to the DSS on the PS3 which I found much fuller. At least gaming-wise on my Grados.

For the record, I have a custom made Reynold's composite Foil hat. Not only does it protect me from brain scans, but it amplifies my external cerebral transmission, imposing my will over a greater radius

I wonder if adding shielding to the inside wires for my sound plugs on my case will help prevent the buzzing noise I sometimes hear though my speakers/head phones? Any place online I can order from?
 
I'm going to try unplugging the front ports on my case from the motherboard. If it eliminates the buzzing noise, then I'll give that tape a shot on the cables.
 
Update: I finally took out the Xonar DG and installed the DX on the lowest PCIe slot away from the GPU (likely EMI culprit), made sure the cable was routed through the back and now the hiss is almost non-existent.
