XMP profile is now unstable

Hello. I am having a really weird problem.

I have a Corsair Vengeance memory kit. Rated at 1.5v, 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24. I've been using it on my Maximus V Formula for a little less than a year now.

I started to get blue screens recently and wondered what the issue was. I tested prime95 and it would immediately crash. I set my 4.3GHz i7 3770k OC down to stock and tried again. Same issue.

So I turned off the XMP profile and ran my memory at 1333MHz. It was completely stable. The only way I can run it at the rated 1600MHz is to set the memory voltage to 1.6V volts now. That has me worried since Ivy is rated at 1.5v.

Why did my memory degrade like this? Is it the memory controller? I don't know why it would suddenly change.

try running a different memory kit in your board. if it fails again at 1600Mhz speeds, probably the CPUs memory controller has degraded. if it works, then the memory might be bad. Return it under Corsair's Lifetime Warranty.

Same thing happened to me. But after I started running the kit at 1333 MHz, the same symptoms returned. I then tried to boot with one stick at a time and found a stick (out of the four) that wouldn't even POST. Pulled that stick out and now I am running three with XMP enabled and it is stable.

Basically, one or more of your sticks might be going bad.

Pretty sure the warranty doesn't cover XMP as it is an overclock, the warranty only covers stock speeds.

The memory is rated at 1600. If it will not run at 1600, then it is faulty and is covered under warranty.

Hey guys I'm sorry for the late reply. Been busy and I also went to the store to pick up some memory.

Reason being I found out one of the sticks were faulty. I just went ahead and bought faster RAM and instead of 4 four gig sticks I just got 2 eight gig sticks.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am very relieved that it wasn't the memory controller. I was able to use Prime95 without crashing and memtest hasn't picked up any errors with 3 passes.

Yeah, once you start having higher capacities, errors are harder to catch during everyday usage.
