• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

XJS Website Critique Request

I think it looks decent overall. It's rather simple, so there isn't much to critique, but I can still nitpick, of course. :)
  • Header / banner is too tall for the small amount of information and functionality it has. Move the white "book" icon up onto the first line, perhaps.
  • The book logo needs to be antialiased. Either use a PNG for alpha transparency or antialias it to the greenish background and be prepared to update it when you change colors.
  • This sentence is very awkward: "Your journal is too important to risk with anything else". I don't "risk my journal", though I do "risk losing my journal" or "risk losing my entries", maybe.
  • Your vertical banner did not compress or resize well. It also seems odd to me to have a large image like that when only a fraction of it isn't text.
  • Validate your code. This is especially important for someone marketing a web service like this.
  • You have all sorts of dashes and hyphens on the site, like at the bottom of this page. There's a good tutorial on which to use here. In general, though, a lot of your dashes should be — instead of whatever they are.
  • Proofread your text; again especially important on a site like this. For example, you need to turn "quick" into an adverb here: "Access new or old information quick".
  • Don't compress your screenshots as GIF; they look nasty. Use PNG, even though the file sizes will be larger. This goes for the documentation section, too.

That's all for now. It's a nice, simple site, which I very much appreciate. Just a little bit ragged around the edges... ;)

thanks for the reply! I will go ahead and see what I can do to follow your suggestions.

By the way, it isn't a web service. It is an offline-program where the journal can be exported to be online.

I find that many people have made that mistake. Does anyone out there have a suggestion on how I can make sure people don't think XJS is a web service but an offline program? That is the very first thing stated on my index page.

Oh, it was definitely obvious that it's not a web service. But nonetheless, you're aiming at that crowd, right? The fact that you can export to a web-ready format will be a big draw, and the blog weenies will want to know that the exporter is producing valid documents. They will look at your website as an example, even if it's not coming directly (or even indirectly) from the exporter.

Ah, got ya. Thanks for the clarification. When I think it is ready to be reevaluated I will repost.

ok, I have updated my website (here ) with your suggestions. What do you think?

Yes, the side banner is still a work in progress. Is this one better than the last?

Only my index page has the new changes, so you can see the old style by clicking on one of the links.
