Ximatek bolt through kit. Worth it?

Hey guys I just purchased a Xigmatek rifle cooler on for sale/trade forum. He sold it to me without including the bolt through kit. I am just wondering, is it worth it to get the bolt through kit? what are the advantages and disadvantages?(besides the fact that i have to take the motherboard out to install).
 
Depends. If you like pushpins*, no. If you hate pushpins, yes.

*You shouldn't like pushpins.
 
yes you want it.. the pushpins are a joke and will not hold the heatsink worth a damn if you ever move your computer..
 
hmm ok that makes sense. I really don't mind the push pins but i know they can be a pain sometimes. In terms of performance and cooling, will there be much of an issue? I also heard that the bracket prevents the motherboard from bending due to the weight of the heat sink. How likely is this to occur if I don't use the bracket?
 
they are right it will help support the cooler better by spreading the weight out.. without the back plate you are putting all the weight on those 4 pushpins.. and you would actually get better cooling with the bracket.. since the bracket will hold the cooler flush to the cpu, so you dont have to worry about the weight of the heatsink pulling it off the cpu as the pushpins lose tension over time..

$5 at sidewinder. It's not the Xigmatek kit, but all you do is take the push-pins out of the stock brackets and use the screws instead.

The Xigmatek kit is always on back order everywhere, good luck finding it.

thanks for the link. will this work just as well as the official xigmatek kits? sorry, i'm new to installing aftermarket heatsinks

Yes. It comes with the back plate and screws only. So you'll need to remove the push-pins from the mounts that came with the cooler. Either cut them off or disassemble the pins and pry them out. I just cut them off since I won't be using them anyways.

You can use USPS 1st class shipping as well and save some money since it's under 13oz's.

sounds good...probably will have to pick up some AS5 from them too. hopefully it will still be under 13 oz. I will probably send you some msgs once I have it in front of me just to make sure i dont cut the wrong things off lol.
