Xigmatek S1283

If you're going to lap, I'd recommend dry lapping. It gives you better cuts and the sand paper lasts longer.

Are there any good beginners guides to lapping? I'm a real newbie when it comes to this stuff and I have a S1283 on the way. =/

has it been determined that lapping the S1283 is absolutely essential?

Yeah, if I push my Q6600 to 3.6 it idles in the mid 40's and loads in the low 70's. At 3.4 it idles in the mid 30's and loads in the low 60's.

I guess those temps aren't bad, but they could be better. I've seen better out of this cooler.

Maybe a high speed yate loon would help. *shrug*

hydro, i assume you did not lap your s1283?

i have no OC right now. about to install a new PSU, RAM and the S1283, along with new fans (scythe) throughout.

after that i'll be looking to OC my E6750. it'll my first go at it. i'll report back with results.

No, didn't lap it yet.I will tonight though. Worth a shot.

While I have my system apart I might as well pencil mod my mobo as well. I get about .04-.06v vdroop at idle and a full .1v droop at load, which makes it hard to set a good voltage. My chip likes it's voltage when running at 3.6, but also leaves me with over 1.5v at idle.

Maybe a P45-UD3R is in order. They are on sale right now at the egg.
