I am going to buy an 8800GTS. I haven't had any experience with either companies. Anyone have any suggestions? I think eVGA has a lifetime warrenty on all their products... unsure about XFX.

Thanks!

Really?

I just got the tech support rep to charge me a 10% restocking fee... Got mine replaced after I majorly screwed up the HSF...

EVGA without question, they let you overclock, remove the HSF and you can stepup to a GTX if you choose to within 3 months of purchasing your GTS and just pay the difference. My 7950GX2 was sent out 3 days ago and my 8800GTX is already on its way back, amazing company from my experience. They guarantee 3 day turn around ( I am sure there are alot of horror stories ) but EVGA offers alot and their cards are quality.

Either brand. I've used all XFX products the past few years and have had zero complaints. I even used XFX's RMA program once and it was smooth. (first 5950ultra i had died randomly) I since switched to Evga for the moment with my 8800GTX because I plan on water cooling it and they don't mind about the aftermarket coolers as much. If you plan on just keeping the GTS as is, either company is great.

You cannot cause any damage, they only accept it if the replacement is needed for reasons other than your own doing

XFX does have a double lifetime warranty, meaning even second owners can register product for a lifetime warranty! EVGA has step up tho, so either or.

They charge a restocking fee if you are "missing" parts of the assembly.

I screwed up my HSF, so I "lost it" and had them charge my CC for it.

The card was fine, except for a bad memory module (artifacting in 3D)...

So, I paid an extra 23$ (10% of the 230$) on the RMA to get a new card.

Literally, 3 weeks ago...

evga... I've never used the step up program, nor have I ever had to call customer service either (from what i've heard it's great) but I've never had a problem with their cards at all. I put them in all of my customers builds.

call it loyalty; if you want, I'm going to stick with them.

Evga, nothing but great experiences with them even w/my rma. They specifically treat customers well so that we give them positive feedback in the forums. They are the best.

Id say evga.

My last xfx card decided to burn itself out in 7 months, having said that though they were kind enough to give me a complete refund.

whichever's cheaper as either way your getting a great card from a great company :)

evga simply because they understand the enthusiasts needs <3 i support companies like that (they are quality cards too)

wtf, eVGA doesn't void your warranty if you use an after market cooler? That's freaking awesome, but I would imagine they would lose some money because there has got to be a ton people who screw up when removiing their gpu heatsink.

If they actually damage the card there's not much of chance of getting an RMA though.

eVGA FTW. Last XFX card I owned came with an "uber 1337 hacking guide" that contained swearing, slang, and was extremely unprofessional.

I've been talking in another [H] member's thread about RMA problems with XFX.

I think the general consensus is that XFX can take a little bit longer than some other companies with RMAs, although they seem to go out of their way to make things things right with their customers(especially when they mess things up themselves :D .)

I'm waiting for the outcome of my RMA with them to make final judgement, although I've never had another video card die on me so I can't comment much else.

Is that a joke?

I would recommend e-VGA. I believe on the GTS, out of all the companies, it's core clock speed overclocked the best.

No, actually. I'm trying to find the CD right now. It *may* have not contained swearing, but it did have slang and was extremely unprofessional. I bought an XFX 6800xt a while back..

I'm happy with XFX, their cards look so much better than nasty generic evga which is good for showing off (LAN partys, open case, whatever) and they also come overclocked (I think evga has some too, but most aren't). But when I bought my XFX I didn't know about the step up program and now I regret I bought it, double life time is useless, I mean who cares about warranty

Ahh so you say it had it then you say you cant remember, nice.

I have it, and there is no swearing at all. There is some slang, but look at the target audience (gamers, LANers, etc) Its not too far out there, and I think maybe you are just reading too much into it, and no one forced you to read it, so........

Sounds naive heh, imagine a hardcore LANer/modder learning game slang from some manual he got with his gfx card ("sup guys 101.. i lern 1337 frum xfx, by it pwns rofl"), and lets face it, common joe that doesn't know interweb slang doesn't buy an XFX, especially since they don't sell them at best buy

All I said is I wasnt 100% on whether or not it contained swearing. But it was unprofessional for a company to put out such a shitty guide. It sounded like it was written by a teenager.

Ok, so if I'm talking to somebody who is mentally retarded, should I talk like I'm mentally retarded too?

Your stereotyping that all geeks are dumb and use slang. And its extremely unprofessional for a company to put out something like this.

xfx is super l33t do dog fo shu. i was like wtf card shud i buy yo and my peeps was like dude u gotz to buye da bes shh out der yo. so i bought xfx cause it mad pwns n3wbs.

Wee my IQ dropped writing that. Seriously you guys are arguing over whether or not a little book xfx put out contained swearing. Go argue about something that really matters, like whether or not Homer in Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" was ghey. Oh wait we have to be math nerds in here huh. Lets go argue over whether or not a 2mhz overclock will reduce our pi scores by a substantial amount.

eVGA FTW - or BFG if you like buying from a great American company, there RMA department and tech support are downright Friggin Awesome - I had a cross shipped card delivered the next day before noon THATS LESS THAN 18 HOURS!!!! and I am not even close to the warehouse - not same state

Who cares avbout warranty? Are you retarded?

I NEVER had to send anything back to the manufactorer in my life. All my watches came with warranty, did my Seikos ever break? No. My CPU came with warranty, I overclocked it too hard and it burnt, did I use my warranty? No. My PSU doesn't have all the power I need to power my 5 SATA drives on my other computer, do I send it back with warranty? No.
Do you drop your cards on the ground and then complain to XFX that it came that way? Maybe, but I don't. I don't care about warranty.
I guess I'm a retard because I know how to handle my things and which brands to pick, knowing they are reliable

settle down folks - this is hardforum, not the WoW boards =)

Thanks for your comments btw.

I know exactly what you mean, I got the same with my 3 7800gtx's, an Uber leet slang guide to playing games with one of their cards.

It made me laugh as you dont see many vid card companies do that.

cheesy but on the whole I thought it was kinda funny, but as you say it did kinda look unprofessional, I guess they dumped that as i never got it with my 8800gtx, but they do have an advert for the 8800gtx where it says their card is so good that you should bend over and pput your head between your knees and kiss "it" goodbye, they leave out the word ass this time :)

I'd figure I would chime in on my XFX experience. There RMA process was pretty quick with my current card which had a problem with throttling the the gpu fan. It was stuck wide open and affected alot of cards (maybe all?) that had the same model number. Special edition XXX or whatever.

I'm not even sure it was fixed because I put it on water as soon as it came back. My new system was waiting for my card the entire RMA process but I figured it should be fixed for when I sell it down the road.

I jumped on this card without knowing about the EVGA step-up and was pretty pissed since the 7900's came out right after I bought my card. I even tried trading my buddy his EVGA card if he didn't do the step-up. But I recommended him to go the EVGA route for that reason.

But in the end I would probably never buy another card that's not branded EVGA unless aonther company stepped up and offered the same fringe benefits.

To post my opinion, EVGA hands down. I've experienced the RMA dept. and they were more than helpful, while on the other hand XFX took twice as long (but were nice, and I DID get everything straight, just took longer). I also really dont like how XFX voids a warranty when you remove the hsf. Thats another very strong point about EVGA.

Another vote for EVGA. Replaced a POS MSI 6660GT with a EVGA 7600GS and have had no troubles since the swap. The HSF on the 7600GS was quite easy to remove (4 screws) and I slapped on a Zalman and some AS5.
