I was looking at some XFX 5870s on NewEgg and there a re a good number of reports about bad customer service and bad designs as well as ATI driver complaints.

I've had my 8800gtx for a good bit so this is the first ATI I've looked at in a while and the first from XFX.

Anyone have any thoughts on XFX?

*not a bash thread, just curious before I drop $400 on a company I haven't used before*
 
I had a 7900GS from XFX, and had zero issues. Loved the card.
Now I have a 5770 from XFX. I have also had zero issues with this card. I haven't had to deal with CS at all, so no clue there. No driver issues, and nothing seems to be bad with the cards design.
 
I love XFX! I've owned 3 of their cards and never had a single problem. I just bought a second 5870 from Newegg for my first go at a Crossfire setup. I've used their CS a few times for questions and they've always responded quickly.
 
You could worse for customer service on the ATi side than XFX. Much, much worse.

XFX is the EVGA equivalent on the red side ;) if i were you i wouldnt worry about it... i mean cmon lifetime warranty what else could go wrong... lol
 
I've owned 3 XFX 8800GT's over the last 2 years, one went bad but the RMA process was excellent :)
 
couple things. XFX has a double lifetime warranty meaning when I sell my 5870 theyll transfer it to the next owner.

Personally I bought xfx 9800GT off ebay that came with a dualOrb cooler on it and the original heatsink in a bag. well while moving my stuff around I lost the screws for it. I emailed xfx explained what happened I got a ticket but never heard anything back. So I gave them a called and politely explained that I was douche and lost my screws. They sent me new screws no problem or complaint or even a lecture. That seems typical though I think even the guy mentioned the ticketing system blows. I have to use remedy which is god awful so I can understand where theyre coming from.

I also just remembered I bought my wife an XFX 9600GT a couple years ago. Still running in her shuttle PC as we speak. Shes been playing Settlers 7 all week no issues.

The Top 3 companys are ASUS, XFX, and EVGA. Although Evga not doing LT warranties on the GTX480v1 has me suspicious about the product and ASUS you know my current beef with you.

These are followed by BFG, Gigabyte, MSI, Galaxy and maybe one or two I'm not thinking of. These guys are good just not make you a creamcheese bagel and wash your socks great.

Everything else essentially hit and miss. I've never had great support from Sapphire, Powercolor, PNY, or the other lower tiers. you call haggle over an RMA ship it back. 12-24month warranties.

I'm not sure why BFG has been rated lower lately. I know they used to be a big deal. Not anymore though.

My 8800gtx is from BFG and they have been great. Just worried from all the negative posts on NewEgg about the customer service.
 
Well if i were to input my opinion, I would have to say that your going to want to buy a reference card from XFX. the off two types of 5870 ATi reference and non reference. the reference version follows the build specs and component placement for all manufacturers. non reference is where ATI gives the card makers the GPUs and says good luck!

Personally going to be trying to buy an XFX 5970 Black Edition so this thread has my interest. :D
 
Another good vote for XFX , they were a tad slow on some of my customer service issues I had recently but nothing bad.

If you want a brand to avoid , AVOID Diamond .. they are the worst video card brand out there. I spent 2 months waiting for one response to my ticket (which I never got) , I called everyday for 3+ weeks and stayed on the line on hold one time for 3 and half hours.. I left 4 messages total with the last message of me being pissed off.
I couldn't believe just how bad Diamond is with there customer service .. you seriously will never get a response from them and they are one of the top ATI vendors .. it just shocks me.
 
I went with XFX. Thanks again for all the responses. Really helped make me feel better about the purchase.
 
Go with ATI reference XFX cards. As much as I love XFX, the cut too much out of their own PCB's while charging the same price as the reference cards.
 
I just bought a reference XFX 5870 from Newegg. I also have an XFX 9800GT which is now my PhysX card. Before that I had an XFX 8600GT, and a 7600GS. I can't comment on their customer service, as I haven't had any problems with my cards.
 
Go for it!!! I never had a prob with XFX it's all gooooD
 
I've loved everything I've bought from XFX, just recently a 295 and a 5970 black edition. But I remember reading somewhere that XFX will no longer be making nVidia based cards......? Can someone give more info on this......
 
Had my first shot with XFX with my 5870's. The cards have been excellent but they wouldn't give me a long enough crossfire bridge to allow space between my two cards. Even after asking customer service. Peeved me just a little bit.
 
I currently have 12 of thier cards registered to me. They are all I will ever use anymore. They have great customer service. Gave them a call one day because I wanted to purchase a 3 way solid sli bridge from them for my msi mobo I had and the just sent out 2 free of charge. Only ever had a problem with the 4870's and coil noise and they sent out replacements right away so I would not be without any cards for that system.
As far as them not making nvidia cards, that is incorrect. Right now they feel the gtx 480 and 470 would not sell well and the 5870 and 6970 are better value. They will make the mid range and lower range cards and might eventually make the 480.
 
I sent in a 6800, got an 8500 back. It's debatable if this is an equivalent replacement (faster on some games, slower on others); but since the 2xx series cards were out a low power card for a 2ndary box was worth more to me than a somewhat higher performing but still outdated card.

They used to give them out free, some guys got them. But they ran out of stock and don't have anymore to give out afaik.
 
Just bought my fist xfx card 5870 xxx ed. had alittle prob with it the emailed me a new bios within 2 days been perfect since.
 
My XFX5870 has been running like a champ. Though twice now the fan has made a rather annoying rattle sound on a fresh reboot, but it goes a way. XFX thinks something simply got stuck in it then cleared itself, but I disagree. (Google: 5870+rattling fan)

Not to worried about it it though.

You will find both good and bad from all makes/models of any product on the market. It's weeding through the "OMG *Company name here* sucks because I'm a whiny baby and can't run a PC to save my life" posts. (They soon find when they calm down, and put some thought into it, they get it to work.)

Hardware can come DOA, or break weeks/months in. That is not uncommon, but it's what the company does to fix it after the fact that counts.

Both Corsair and XFX have been very helpful, and fully willing to accept an RMA, but I decided neither was worth it. Both items are still running great. (H50 had a rattle, but I was just being picky. 5870 has not started it's rattle thing for awhile now either, but it was LOUD compared to the H50.)

XFX said if it happens again, feel free to contact them again and they'd fix it.
