Quick background:
My old 4870X2 died about a month ago and I did whole online tech thing as it had the lifetime warranty.
RMA from start to finish took about 2-3 weeks and went smoothly.

Get the replacement card on Oct 21st, install it and all goes well for about an hour then I get the gray screen. Back to tech support I head and I swear to god it's like I am not even dealing with the same company now. Taking 4-5 days for a response after doing what they are asking for trouble shooting, they keep focusing on it being a ram issue, check you DRAM voltage, try different RAM, try single sticks of RAM.......

How the hell does service go from good to crap that quickly?

Maybe EVGA spoiled me, had an issue with one of my 460GTXs, every non reference card they sent me was only lasting about a month, when I pointed out that my reference card was older and still going and the 3 non reference cards they had sent me weren't lasting they found a reference card and sent it to me, they even tested it out before shipping it to me.

I don't expect instant responses to online tickets but I do expect to answered in less than 7 days...

Maybe it is your ram? All you have to do is tell them you ran memtest86 overnight and that it found no issues. Of course if you don't actually do it you may just be screwing yourself.

Anyways, the times I've found solid color displays it was the GPU, but that's not to say it couldn't be something else.

I ran memtest, the reply i got back was that it could be one stick so try single sticks. Ok did that, tried different RAM even, still gray screens.

No crashes with the SLI set up installed, gray screens with the 6950 installed.

Used Driver Sweeper, in factI 've done everything they asked and now I am just frustrated with waiting for 4 days for an answer every time they want something tried.

Yeah, I've pretty much given up on any of the manufacturers so called excellent warranties. Much of that has to do with the fact I live in Canada, so generally get screwed over from just that.

For any major component purchases like video cards. I get myself the extended warranty from my local vendor covering over the counter exchanges for defective products.

On another note, EVGA spoils everyone. I get my RMA replacements from them from start to finish within 3-5 days. Heh.

I know what you mean - same thing happened to me with my XFX HD6950. The RMA'd one didn't work and I got grilled like a swordfish. They wanted me to check everything on my computer, I had to explain to them several times that the replacement card was broken *DIFFERENTLY* from the original, so it can't be the computer. I finally got them to do a second RMA, they spent 5 days testing the card before they admitted it was in fact broken and they would be sending me another replacement. The second replacement I am happy to report is working fine, although I am using it as a second card for CrossFire - my primary card is now an ASUS EAH6950 DCII.
