Any of you with XFX 5870s that had to RMA their cards get worse video cards in return? I'm currently on my 3rd 5870 and it's in worse shape than the 2nd one that lasted for 7 months. My first 5870 lasted about 10 months. I've created another ticket with them but have not heard a response for a few days now. The third 5870 is not in my PC right now because the first time I installed it, it artifacted at the BIOS already. I'm back on my 2900XT 1GB which has been my backup card for the last 5 years, and it's a Sapphire brand with maybe over 5k gaming hours logged on it, and it still works like a champ. What gives? Should I ask XFX to upgrade me to the 6 series to reduce the risk of getting a defective 5870? I'd like to not use my 2900XT any longer since it's a power hog.

Was it one of those non reference cards? I slightly remember a shitty non reference with the 5870 from XFX that was causing a lot of issues. If so try asking for either a reference or a different non reference model. Not sure they will be entirely up to sending a 6 series, since they probably still have a decent amount of 5870s sitting around for RMA.

I had an RMA years ago. It was a 7900GT. I sent it in, 3 weeks later I got a 7950 XXX edition brand new in the mail. It was pretty painless.

I have rma'ed with XFX twice but they were Nvidia cards. Was pretty painless but I can understand the want of a different card in your case.Like mentioned above ask for a different card in return the most they can say is no.

I sold my XFX 4850 out of my old machine to a guy on craigslist. It was perfect when I pulled it but he said it kept bluescreening on him. He had a crappy power supply and honestly I think it killed the card. However, he spoke with XFX on the phone, they told him to send it in and 2.5 weeks later he had a new 5750. I was impressed. They gave us no trouble whatsoever and I was really impressed. YMMV of course but I'm a fan of XFX, theyve done right by me.

Had a 8800GT go down, got a brand new 9800GT. Had a 4870 go down(actually not work as soon as I got it from a forum user- un registered as well), and they sent me a brand new 4890 as replacement. Always had a great experience with them

I had a GTX 260 die on me last year and they sent me a brand new retail HD 5830 as a replacement, while not much of an upgrade I was still impressed that they send a retail card instead of a refurb as the replacement.

Right now they are probably swimming in bad cards due to the bit coin thing, some people push those cards way to hard and then warranty them,It's got to be hard to test them all thoroughly.

I had a 192 shader GTX 260 with them, they sent me the 216 shader and it's worked flawlessly ever since, but it's in my roommate's computer. However if I'm going to send out the 5870 for the third time, it usually costs $20 for delivery, bleh. My third card looked brand new.. I didn't see any signs of wear or dust on it, so I thought oh cool, this must be brand new, but no, it's artfacting at the BIOS :(

If this RMA was so recent tell them you want to them to cross ship then. No reason for you to have to eat anymore cost when it comes to shipping and waiting for a new card.

ask them if you can be upgraded to a 6970 cuz he had over 3 replacements already.

GTX260 died on me, they gave me a 4890 as a replacement. Pretty painless. Not a problem.
