XFX nForce 680i LT SLI supported memory?

Sorry, this is a quick question.
With the XFX nForce 680i LT SLI, what is the best memory you can put in it. What I mean is, does it support up to DDR2 800MHZ PC6400 or can it use DDR2 1066MHZ PC8500

Sorry, it is probably a n00b question. The last time I bought RAM for a rig it was DDR PC3200.
 
I think someone said there is no gain in performance from ram faster then the FSB that which the CPU runs on. I would like to ask if this is true.

as an example:

C2D e6600, 2.4Ghz 1066bus (4X) 266mhz bus
Ram 533mhz (x2) 266mhz bus
So anything faster on this cpu in this state would not add any performance.
