Hey all,

I've got a HD-577X-ZNFC.
I've also got a HD-585A-ZNFC.

Can i take the cooler from the 5770 and slap it onto the 5850? or is this a square peg-round hole scenario?

it would fit since the mounting is exactly the same. it hasn't changed since the HD2k series. but would it be worth doing? no. better off buying an aftermarket heatsink then to attempt to use a heatsink designed for a much cooler running gpu. not only that but you would already have to buy ram/vrm heatsinks to cool the rest of the card.

The 5770 cooler is a double fan version, not a blower style like th 5850. So it probably cools better.

ram/vrm makes it a pita....Though i guess the 5850's baseplate could take care of that on the 5770 too.

Ive tried the aftermarket cooler route, had to rma it. Stll waiting.

Figured i'd at least inquire about it.

It might work, but I would not recommend it. The 5850 and 5770 have different thermal thresholds, with the 5770 being the far lesser of the two. In short the 5770 cooler might be adequate to cool the 5770 card, but not the 5850.
