Hey everyone, I have a dell e520 and just last night dropped in an XFX 8600gts xxx. The video driver fails every so often in games.

The machine runs Aero just fine and works with WoW perfectly (frames will be at 60fps with details maxed at 1680x1050) except for the occasional video driver failure. The failure causes the screen to black out for about 2-3 secs and then everything comes back with a warning in the system tool tray (appears as an exclamation mark). When I look at the event log for the failure, it says the problem event name is 'LiveKernelEvent' and has the following extra information:
BCCode: 117
BCP1: 8722DF38
BCP2: 8A81F060
BCP3: 0000000C
BCP4: 00000000
OS Version: 6_0_6000
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1
Server information: 00084564-7d0e-40e3-a9e1-1c97224709ac

I googled this error and could only find speculation to the problem, with no real answers. Could this be that I'm using the stock 305watt dell PSU? Is the video card dead on arrival? I'm kinda stuck here. WoW and the system were previously stable on integrated video.

System specs
intel e6300
2gb ddr667
samsung 250gb sata hd
sony sata dvdr
xfx 8600gts xxx (730mhz/2.26ghz)

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

well I see that most 8600gts cards reccomend a 350watt PSU, so that's why I asked. But in many reviews of the 8600's I'd see that total system power consumption was at 250-280 under load, and that was with more internal devices, whereas my system is fairly minimal.

I'm considering heading out to get a new PSU after work and testing it, not sure if that is the issue at hand though.

ha, 305w?? I'd says thats the problem right there. Can get a nice 500w for a better price than a 400-450w though. Watch out though, Dell used to be proprietary, not sure if they still are or not though.
